It is the mind-shattering revelation that all is One and One is all, that everything is ultimately none other than that mystical and mysterious ground of Being�the Nothingness that is Everything. The direct experience of this ultimate of mysteries liberates the mind from time and frees the soul from fear. It sets the stage for human life to manifest its incredible creative potential in a way that is authentic and free. But what is the moral, philosophical, and ethical context in which that creative potential and authentic freedom will arise? Because we live in a time when so many of us have left the past and all its traditions behind, where are we to look for answers to life�s most basic and important questions? The revelation of nonduality�that all is One and One is all�in and of itself does not answer the question of how to live, how to make sense out of the human experience in the midst of a rapidly changing world�a world in which so many of us have left all guidelines behind.

The logistics necessary for each city involved are simply designating a location or locations and spreading the word to as many people as possible from all walks of life to come and drum for 1/2 hour for Peace. This includes Church groups, Unions, Universities, Hippies, Drum Groups, anyone and everyone wanting to make a stand for Peace.

The emerging paradigm that we see, based on the dispersed insurgencies bursting out, is the renaissance of the commons. The commons is a social regime for managing shared resources and forging a community of shared values and purposes. Unlike markets, which rely upon price as the sole dimension of value, a common is organized around a richer blend of human needs -- for identity, community, fame and honor -- which are indivisible and inalienable, as well as more "tangible" rewards.
Dom Helder Camara, the late archbishop of Brazil, a noted fighter for the poor, the "marginados" of that country, and a leading practitioner of Liberation Theology, said it best. "To examine capitalism," said Dom Helder, "is to indict it."
As Congress wrestles with US policy in Iraq, the human reality on the ground grows worse and worse throughout the region. We need to begin grappling with our responsibilities in the face of that burgeoning tragedy.
I fear for the peoples of the Middle East.
I fear for Shiites and Sunnis in Iraq, who are already engaged in bloody civil war, and for their co-religionists throughout the region, whose long coexistence is being turned into lethal conflict by US and other outside forces. I fear for the Turkmen and the Kurds in northern Iraq, who are being openly threatened with ethnic cleansing and military attack. I fear for Christians, Jews and other vulnerable minorities spread throughout the region.
We can change the system by helping people see that there really is a movement for a better world all around us. It just hasn't been named yet.
The Better World Movement is not an organization. All you have to do is decide to make 'a better world' your goal. Though sometimes it may seem to be an impossible dream, you will never be alone in this wish.
Together, as part of the Better World Movement, we will do all that we can to try to make this dream come true.
