Kimberly Zaleski, 16, started playing flute in the third grade after feeling mesmerized by the line of flutes in the front row at a school band concert. She eventually took up piccolo as well, and says she likes the way its shape and sound makes it stand out from other instruments. She performs Willard Elliot's Fantasy for piccolo and piano. Pianist Andrea Johnson started playing piano at age 5; by the time she was 12, piano had become a huge part of her life. At 13, she began teaching piano to help pay for the braces on her teeth. The Children's Chorus of Greater Dallas features 76 singers, age 11 to 14. Led by artistic director Cynthia Nott, the chorus performs throughout the Dallas area and recently traveled to New York to make their Carnegie Hall debut. Many of the kids who sing in the chorus have been longtime members, starting out in one of the lower levels of the chorus and working their way up.
