New Pitcher/Batter Interface: Players must be strategic with their pitches. Throw a nasty curve to a batter's "cold zone" or risk a possible home run by throwing some heat to their "hot zone." Each pitcher will have more effective pitches depending on how accurate those pitches are in real life. Batting: Quality of the hit will depend on each batter's real life "hot and cold zones," hitter ratings, swing timing and swing type. New AI and Gameplay System: Real-time scouting reports provide accurate player ratings and attributes. CPU opponents react like their real-life counterparts, incorporating strategy and decision-making based on outs, score, inning, pitch count, etc. First Ever Picture-in-Picture Baserunning. Robust Franchise Mode includes rookie drafts, player development, career-ending injuries, contracts and hirings/firings. All-New Throw Meter. Major League Baseball Player Council: Expert advice and design input from leading MLB players Torii Hunter, Trot Nixon, Todd Pratt, Eric Chavez and Tim Hudson. [EA Sports]

While MVP Baseball 2003 isn't perfect, it's still an impressive first entry in a new sports series and a very good baseball game in its own right.

GameSpy
MVP Baseball 2003 has several obvious flaws and missing features -- such as the lack of an in-game player editor or a fantasy draft option -- but the prospect of what future versions of the series could be should make any baseball gamer extremely happy and anxious.

A totally new game. Unfortunately, it lacks the depth of the other games here, and therefore won't satisfy hardcore baseball fans. [Apr 2003, p.64]

In its maiden campaign, there are glimmers of hope for future greatness, but this rookie offering is sufficiently weak in enough areas to keep it lagging behind 3DO's "High Heat" series. [July 2003, p.74]

MVP Baseball 2003 is a superlative pitching interface in search of a better showcase. [July 2003, p.75]

Aaron B. gave it a 10:
I believe this is one of the best games i have ever played on XBOX. The graphics were so realistic and i enjoyed simulating up to the year 2019 on franchise mode. I think EA Sports has created the best baseball game ever.

Paul gave it a 9:
Only thing missing is a fantasy draft, and the option of controlling your fielders to dive or jump......but the fantasy draft is the biggest issue...once these things are met, then no one can dog this game.

Alex B. gave it a 9:
It's a very tactic and interesting game. I love this sport too. I like the graphic.

Mark K. gave it an 8:
This game has excellent graphics, especilly the stadiums. They are well done. Also, the individual detail to player features is pretty good. The game would be a ten, however there are some corrections that need to be made. It is almost impossible to steal, and real easy to throw out computer controlled runners. Also, there are no wild pitches or passed balls. The computer baserunning can be a problem. In one game, a runner going home with two outs, went back to third and was thrown out and he was 3/4 of the way to home. The computer contolled manager makes some strange decisions. Pedro Martinez was pitching a 2 hit shutout, and the manager replaced him in the seventh. That would not happen in a real game. EA should also consider adding weather factors, such as wet fields and wind. This would make the game even more realistic. Overall the game is enjoyable and I think baseball fans will like it.

Ben S. gave it a 10:
It's sweet.
