The ultimate guide to what's on in South Africa, updated weekly on Thursday evenings.

Music
In Cape Town, the Invest in the Youth concert, at the Alliance Française in Mitchells Plain on June 16, offers young people a chance to get in touch with some of the issues affecting them on a grassroots level. In Jozi, Youth Day offers young people plenty of opportunities to party, including the Blk Jks EP launch at the Deconstruction Apart Love event at the Apartheid Museum on June 15, and the East Rand Youth Day concert at Trotters in Boksberg on June 16. And in Durban, the good news for fans of Gothic and heavy music is that The Winston Hotel will soon wake up from an extended slumber, especially to let rip with over a week's worth of sonic mayhem.

Theatre
In Durban, film fans have a reason to celebrate in the form of the 28th Durban International Film Festival. In Cape Town, James Cairns and Rob van Vuuren perform superbly in their sophisticated comedy, Brother Number. And in Jo'burg, Doubt, supposedly a Broadway hit play, unfortunately leaves one wondering what all the fuss is about.

Fine art
In Jo'burg, 2006 Standard Bank Young Artist Award-winner Churchill Madikida's Like Father Like Son? makes a last stop in the City of Gold after an extensive tour of the country. In Cape Town, After-Images is an exhibition of Mark Hipper's work, which operates in an in-between zone that refuses to dictate meaning, preferring to rely on our own prejudices as viewers to provoke a reaction. Finally, in Durban, renowned photographer Clinton Friedman exhibits his new work at artSPACE durban, in a show titled Black Magic.
