Midnight Club 3's PSP port looks like the console version, sounds like the console version, and plays like the console version. This is because it is the console version, shrunk down on a UMD. Unfortunately, what is an otherwise stellar port of an exceptional game is brought crashing down by one all-too-familiar flaw…
…Load times. Yes, those despicable, non-playable gaps between races are in full effect here, and they're long enough to suck all the fun out of this game. Races in Midnight Club are well-suited to on-the-go play, with an average race taking two minutes or less to finish. This is to the game's credit, but things go south in a hurry when you take into account that each race can take well over a minute to load. Unacceptable.
If you have a superhuman amount of patience, you'll probably get a lot of enjoyment out of this port. I don't possess that quality, and I'm willing to wager that 90% of the PSP owning masses don't either. We can only pray that Rockstar does a better job for Liberty City Stories.
