Sturgeon and Humans Collide on the Suwannee

All Things Considered, June 12, 2007 · During the weekend, 32-year-old Tara Spears was knocked unconscious by a jumping sturgeon while Jet Skiing. In 2006, 10 people were hurt in sturgeon-human incidents in Florida. Capt. Roy Brown of Florida's Fish and Wildlife Department says drought conditions mean there's less room for boaters and sturgeon to move. When the river shrinks, the fish get crowded, he says.
