Tim Krabbé is one of Holland's leading writers, and his novels are published all over the world. His many books include The Vanishing, which was made into a successful film, and The Cave. His most recent book is The Rider. He lives in Amsterdam.
Tim Krabbé was born on 13 April 1943 in Amsterdam, where he still lives. As a journalist, he has contributed to many major Dutch periodicals, including Vrij Nederland, Haagse Post, De Tijd, NRC/Handelsblad, Parool, Playboy, Elseviers Magazine, HUMO, Intermagazine and Esquire.
Four of Tim Krabbé’s novels have been made into movies, most famously Spoorloos (The Vanishing), which won an award for Best Dutch Film in 1988, and for which Tim Krabbé also wrote the screenplay.
The Vanishing, which was weakly remade for Hollywood in 1993, is based on the cult novel Het Gouden Ei (The Golden Egg). The novel The Vanishing, published by Bloomsbury in October 2003, is a new translation of Het Gouden Ei by Sam Garrett, who won an award for his translation of Krabbé's cycling classic, The Rider.
