Scholarships
The
Nordic Africa Institute supports studies on Africa in the Nordic
countries through four types of grants. Within the travel grants
programme, some 30-40 scholars from universities in the
Nordic countries are sponsored annually for short research trips to
Africa in connection with ongoing research projects. The study grants
programme permits some 30 students, teachers and journalists at
Nordic universities, to spend one month in Uppsala using the
Institute's library resources. The Nordic guest researchers' programme
is aimed at researchers in the Nordic countries and awards grants for a
maximum stay of two months. The African guest researchers' scholarship
programme is one way of fulfilling the Institute's aim to promote
cooperation and contact between Nordic and African researchers. It was
established in order to give African researchers an opportunity to make
use of the resources of the Institute. On average, five to six scholars
per year are invited to spend between two and three months at the
Institute, working on their own projects. A few independently financed
guest researchers visit the Institute every year.
