The Big Three automakers are parked on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, hoping to urge lawmakers to reconsider plans to increase fuel-efficiency standards in new cars and trucks. The Senate is expected to vote next week on raising the standard on average fuel consumption to 35 mpg, a plan the auto industry says is unworkable.
