Wong, Moore on Cannes panels

CANNES -- Filmmakers including Wong Kar Wai, whose "My Blueberry Nights" opens the Festival de Cannes, and Palme d'Or winner Michael Moore are getting ready for the conversations and panels organized by the American Pavilion.
The series kicks off Friday with Wong and "Blueberry" leading lady Norah Jones appearing "In Conversation" on the media terrace at the Pavilion.
Moore, who is bringing his new documentary "Sicko" to this year's fest, will discuss the film May 21 at the Pavilion's Enviga Conference Center.
Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne, co-chairmen and co-CEOs of New Line Cinema, will take part in an "In Conversation" discussion about their company's 40th anniversary on May 22 at the conference center.
Directors Harmony Korine ("Mister Lonely"), Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi ("Persepolis") and Tom Kalin ("Saving Grace"), whose films are all debuting in Cannes, will take part in the "Industry in Focus: Directors" panel to be held Saturday at the conference center.
The topic of climate change moves to the fore at the "Industry in Focus: The Greening of Hollywood" panel Sunday at the conference center. Scheduled participants include Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen, co-directors of Warner Independent Pictures' "The 11th Hour" and founders of Tree Media Group; Lawrence Bender, producer of "An Inconvenient Truth," founding member of the Detroit Project and founding advisory board member of the Hollywood Hill; and Harold Linde of Tree Media Group. WIP and Warner Bros. International, which are distributing "Hour," are supporting "green" policies at the Pavilion this year.
Cisco will sponsor the "The Internet: New Platform for Storytelling or Just Distribution?" panel at the conference center next Sunday. The panel lineup includes Tony Perkins, founder and editor-in-chief of AlwaysOn.com; Catherine Owens, director, "U2 3D"; Russell Schwartz, president of domestic marketing, New Line Cinema; and Dan Scheinman, senior vp at Cisco Media Solutions.
Also next Sunday, Colin Firth and Rupert Everett will discuss their work in the new film "St. Trinian's" at an "In Conversation" appearance at the conference center, sponsored by AmPav and the U.K. Film Council.
The "Industry in Focus: Screenwriting" panel is set for May 23 with a lineup that includes Juan Antonio Bayona ("El Orfonato"), Cecilia Miniucchi ("Expired") and Blake Nelson ("Paranoid Park").
Presented by IFP and sponsored by entertainment law firm Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, the "Industry in Focus: Tax Incentives for Filmmaking" panel, May 23 at the conference center, offers a discussion about new production tax incentives in the U.S., U.K. and Germany. Entertainment finance experts participating include Thomas D. Selz of Frankfurt Kurnit Klein & Selz, New York City; Adam P. Davies of Investrum Film Finance Services, London; Jim Reeve of International Film Finance Ltd., London; and Dr. Sebastian von Wallwitz of Schwarz Kelwing Wicke Westpfahl, Munich.
