Welcome to the near future

Chances are, you've noticed the big upgrade of The Hollywood Reporter's web site. We're calling this redesign Version 6.0, but to be honest, in all the excitement over the past decade, we kind of lost track. Maybe it's 7.0 after all.

Some of you have been coming to the site since v1.0. Back then, in 1995, The Reporter was the first entertainment trade on the web. We were musket-carrying pioneers on our stretch of the "Information Superhighway."

All along, the site has remained "in development," with new features, products and services going up almost every month. In the past year, for example, we've added a trio of outstanding blogs and the popular business podcast Money & Media.

The last bumper-to-bumper redesign went public in early summer 2003. Work on v6 started in late 2005 and continued throughout 2006.

One of the major upgrades in v6 is integration of The Reporter's in-house database, which tracks film and TV production, boxoffice, TV ratings and other key industry indicators.

The Reporter's database now fuels many elements on the site: charts, the new TV pilot-tracking service, the upgraded review credits system, and the comprehensive "company" and "projects" pages. Stand by for more robust business tools: The database has just begun to supercharge this site.

Interaction and community remain top priorities for hollywoodreporter.com. Video and audio have unlimited potential. Look for exciting initiatives in these areas as we rev up this shiny new v6 for 2007.

The Hollywood Reporter network

Now in its 76th year, The Hollywood Reporter covers the business of the entertainment industry via a network of media outlets. They include the print daily and weekly editions, the web site, various electronic-media offerings and high-profile events such as the Key Art Awards and Women in Entertainment.

The Reporter's team of reporters and news editors number more than 60, with representatives in most of the world's major cities.

The Reporter is published by Nielsen Business Media which is part of The Nielsen Co., a global information and media company whose trade publications include Billboard and Adweek. The Nielsen Co. also owns the media research specialist ACNielsen.

The first Hollywood-based daily trade newspaper covering the entertainment industry began publishing Sept. 3, 1930. Its founder was William R. Wilkerson, who remained publisher and editor-in-chief of the paper for more than 30 years. VNU acquired The Reporter in 1994.
