Stage6 FAQs

What is Stage6™?

Stage6 is the next evolution in digital media (see About Stage6).

What are the minimum system requirements for Stage6?

The Stage6 beta website is optimized for experience in the Mozilla Firefox browser. It may kind of work in IE as well. To play videos offered for free on Stage6, you need the DivX Web Player. To upload videos to the Stage6 site, you need the DivX Content Uploader.

What is Karma?

Karma is a gauge of how actively and positively you participate in the Stage6 community. It is influenced by everything you do on the site. As your karma level increases, you gain more privileges (and respect) in the Stage6 community.

I don't have any videos to share. Can I still join?

Yes, anyone is welcome to join Stage6. If you don't have your own videos to share, you can watch videos, participate in forums, earn Karma, make friends and publish to your own personal profile.

I forgot my password. How can I retrieve it?

You can recover your password at the login page, or go to Help -> Forgotten password in the DivX Player for Windows. Enter the email address for your account. You will be asked for the answer to your security question. Once you answer the security question, you will receive an email with a link to change your password.

Who owns what I publish on Stage6?

You retain all rights to content you upload to Stage6.

What is the limit to the size and number of videos I can upload?

Hmmmm, there currently is no limit to the number or total size of videos you may upload.

Can I change my mind after I submit a video?

Yes. You can delete any video you upload from the system at any time.

What file formats may I upload?

Well, we recommend the DivX media format ;-) Currently, all video files you wish to upload to Stage6 must be encoded in a DivX format (.divx) or in a DivX encoded AVI (.avi) file.

The uploader says that my video is not compatible for publishing, but it's in the DivX format -- what gives?

If you have trouble uploading a file, please try encoding it using the freely available Dr. DivX application, or the DivX Converter. If you still have problems, please contact us.

Is there a file size limit for video uploads?

Well, sort of -- videos must be under 2GB in size :)

What is your policy on copyright infringement?

You may only upload content that you have the rights to upload and/or share. We have the right to immediately remove any content for which we have received notice of copyright infringement.

How can I play DivX videos on my TV?

One of the best features of Stage6 is that all videos are downloadable and playable on TV using any DivX Certified DVD player. DivX Certified and DivX Ultra Certified devices (DVD players, portable media players, in-car players, home theater systems, etc.) let you watch DivX videos on your TV or on the go.
To play DivX video back on your TV, simply download the video you want to watch on your PC, burn it to a CD or DVD and play it back in a DivX Certified DVD player. You can buy these players at stores worldwide.

Can I watch Stage6 videos full screen?

Yes, just double-click on the video when it starts to play to experience high resolution, full screen Internet video.

Do I have to activate my DivX Certified device to watch free Stage6 content?

No. You only need to activate your DivX Certified device to play videos you purchase.

Can I post a video to my own website as well as Stage6?

Yes, you can post your videos to as many sites as you want. In fact, we've made it easy to post the same video to Stage6 and to your website if you want to. Use the Share link under the video player to copy-and-paste the DivX Web Player code into your website.

I already have a DivX VOD account, do I need to create another one for Stage6?

No, but you will need to supply some additional information to activate your account on Stage6 when you sign in the first time. Simply enter in the required fields and your account will be activated.

How do I change my profile picture?

To change your default avatar picture, upload an image and select it as your avatar by clicking 'Make avatar' under the picture in your image gallery.

What is a channel?

Channels enable you to publish your content to your audience and take advantage of Stage6 features in a fully branded environment.

What's the difference between a channel and a Profile?

Channels allow for somewhat more customization than profiles and offer a bit more functionality. For instance you can (and should) upload a slick banner image for your channel (we recommend an image 720 pixels wide). Channels also come complete with their own forums -- you are free to add and moderate forums for your channel(s). You can also enlist the aid of others to help manage your channel -- simply designate a subscriber to your channel as a moderator and they will have full rights to upload, delete, and moderate content and forums on your channel.

How do I create a channel?

Very simple -- just click the 'create channel' link on your profile page, enter a name and short description and off you go.

How do I upload a video to a channel?

When you own a channel or channels, a 'publish to channel' dropdown will appear under the video player. Select the channel you'd like to move the video to, and click 'submit'. Alternatively, you can select to upload a video to a specific channel from within the publishing process. Note: a video can only be in one place at a time, so once you've moved it to a channel it will no longer appear in your profile.
