God of War II may use the same engine as the original God of War, but that doesn't mean the graphics are the same. The game development team was able to polish up the graphics and design more ambitious levels for the sequel. When asked to describe the graphical improvement, God of War II director Cory Barlog told GameSpot, "It's a huge difference. It's not as huge as in a generational difference where people say look at PS2 versus PS3, but Kratos, the model of Kratos in one and the model of Kratos in two, in God of War II is astounding--the quality difference."
Kratos's clothing is much more detailed in God of War II. His shoes and loincloth in particular show extra texture detail and great shadowing. The chains wrapped around his forearms don't have a 3D normal-mapped look, but the textures still look sharper in the new game.

Other improvements include full-screen graphical effects, such as light bloom. The game doesn't abuse the effect, so you'll be impressed each time you see it. Barlog also mentioned a few changes that might not be immediately noticeable in screenshots, such as the ability to get more characters onscreen and a faster-moving Kratos. He runs around faster, but the animation remains completely fluid.
The graphical improvements aren't just technical either. The most powerful art changes can be found in level design. God of War II has "bigger, more expansive levels" where the size contrast between the player and level architecture gives the game an epic quality. It's not all eye candy either. According to Barlog, levels have increased in scope to integrate more puzzles into entire maps rather than segment each one off in a single room. All of the smart design decisions ultimately mean that God of War II plays as well as it looks.

the Graphics are barely better but who cares gamplay rocks
I guess they reworked his textures a bit so that they make more sense, but the model appears to be almost identical, triangle-for-triangle.
truth be told(my truth that is), i see no difference in the graphics except for the blood, gore and increased speed in movement. however, me thinks twas a good thing it was made on the ps2 instead of a ps3 cos i'm still rollin with a ps2. love kratos any time of the day.
yeah you right klonz419 they should make God of War 2 for the ps3 and they making God of War 3 on the ps3 to that will hot, the ps2 graphic for the god of war 2 is better than the God of War that what i like about it God of War 2.
I guarantee that if sony makes God of War II for the PS3 there will be now game that can stand up to Kratos and the six axis controller with the help of a little Blu-Ray.
These graphics are almost exactly the same as the first and the developers are stupid because they made no PS3 version. It doesn't get much dumner than that. The game is completely awesome just like the first so the graphics don't bother me.
If only they put out a ps3 version then it would look way better, the first god of war already pushes the ps2 to its limits and the second one only looks like they re-did the textures.
meh, the developers may see this as big improvement, but personally, i'm not seeing much difference. i also don't care..... the gaming is what's important here, graphics are nice, but they are just that if there isn't a good game to back them up. which by the way, this game rocks!
Not so much difference. A little this a little that. But this is not the reason we love this bloody bastard
they look alot better on the new one as they say but i want to know how the 3rd one will look but i will have to say the 2nd god of war hit it right on the head unlike some other games like halo 2
Pretty pictures. I'm glad GoW 2 is still just as amazing as GoW in the GAMEPLAY area, the only area that really matters. I'm blown away by this game, it's such a blast! I don't really remember the last time I got so excited about getting the chance to get home and start playing a game again like this one (maybe GTA 3 when it came out... EA and Capcom need to learn a lesson from the GoW developers! MAKE GAMES FUN AGAIN!)!
I think go2 rulez!!! The shot arn't really that good/ but hey i like it.
i don't see a huge difference, except for the fact that, GOW2 shots are more "glowy" looking than that of GOW1. Other than that, its still the same.
Oh what the heck! who cares? this game ROCKS!!!

I see little or no difference. But heck, who cares? This game rocks and isn't a next-gen launch. Ties DMC (IMO) for best game EVER.
The environments look better but there is nary a difference in Kratos' look from these screens.
i dont see much of a difference, however it doesn't even matter bcuz this game looks amazing anyways.
theres no improvement at all, just minor differences. still great though!
Computers cant draw circles... But still they do a great job with perfect 90 degree squares. I think both of them look the same...
I would say that there isn't much to compare to for the fact that the first GOW was a much more darker game. For example the lighting was totally different for the fact that a God was destroying athens at the beginning which made the lighting different. The second GOW was brightened up to show the more detail that it has. The only part that dissapointed me was that he gets stabbed in the stomach and I think that took away some of the visual beauty of Kratos, he was supposed to be a chiseled warrior and then gets stabbed, and i feel that it made it look like the developers slacked a lil on him.
To me there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference. Besides, it looks way better on the actual console coz screenshots always pixelate it... that sucks. But the graphics difference is pretty close on my awsome-ness scale!
They both look awesome. If i had to pick which graphics i liked the best i'd have to go with the first god of war. But the graphics in the second are definately better quality graphics, but sometimes the quality of the graphics don't totally affect the value of them.
in GOW II graphics is really better look at krauts and his body that is nice...
The difference in the level of details in the pohto , also Kratos seems to be slimmer a bit. the blades are smaller too. But I still have to buy the game now so I have to check it out. the improvements over all are to the better.
I'm playin this game right now, you can really see an improvement over the original. I am still surprised that its the same engine! Though, it shows its age in parts especially after I've been playing Gears of War and Shivering Isles...
I own this game, and I play my PS2 on a HDTV and the graphics look freaking awesome
big im provement to me i own both games these screens suck sooo dam pixilated
God of War 2 looks quite good and the graphics aren't bad compared to the first one.

I hate the fact GoW 2 isn't out in the UK yet, it's one of the last great PS2 titles I want.
u shuld like get an hdtv and play this (i do and looks great) level and art design is fantastic. second best looking ps2 on this
only problem is wen u run progressive and wide screen the jags really show but not that big of deal
just awesome
now they have to do this wiht more games
mgs3 and mgs2
halo1 and halo2
or even cross system for some games
I love the graphics. I feel like it's a little too similar to the first though, (the rest of the game). But I just can't imagine what the screens are gonna look like for the PS3!!
