Full System

The regular Xbox 360 system includes the Xbox 360 console, a wireless controller, a headset, an Ethernet cable, HD component and composite AV cables, and a 20GB hard disk drive all for $399. The hard disk will come preloaded with an Xbox arcade game, and Microsoft will also throw in a media remote control until the end of 2005. This hardware package should have all the accessories you need to start playing any of the system's games at launch, both online and offline, including that hard drive to store all your saved games so you won't have to worry about a memory card. Although both packages include a "silver" level subscription to Microsoft's Xbox Live online gaming service, the full package also includes a headset.

Xbox 360 System

Microsoft's second-generation video game console features a multicore 3.2GHz IBM PowerPC-based CPU, a custom ATI graphics chip, and multichannel surround sound.

Xbox 360 20GB Removable Hard Drive

The Xbox 360 will feature a removable 20GB hard drive, which will allow for easy transport of game files, media, and music. You'll also need the hard drive for backward compatibility with older Xbox games. Compared to the 64MB memory card, the removable hard drive will give you more than 300 times as much storage capacity. If you didn't purchase the Xbox 360 full system, the drive will cost $99.99 separately.

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller

The Xbox 360 can support up to four wireless controllers. The gamepads feature built-in vibration and have voice-communication inputs that work with any standard cell phone headset. Extra wireless controllers will have a $49.99 MSRP.

Xbox 360 HD Video AV Cable

The Component HD AV Cable provides an "all-in-one" solution for both hi-definition TVs that use component video input and standard-definition TVs that use composite video input. It also has an optical port for 5.1-sound, but you'll have to provide your own cable.

Xbox 360 Headset

Available separately for $19.99, the Xbox 360 Headset lets you strategize with teammates, trash-talk with your opponents, or chat with friends while playing your favorite games. You can record and leave short voice messages for friends or family through the free Xbox Live Message Service, or connect with friends online using the headset.

Xbox 360 Media Remote

The limited edition Media remote has slightly fewer functions than the Universal Media remote, and it will only be available on the initial run of full-system bundles. The Xbox 360 remote controls video playback, as well as all media functions associated with the unit.

Core System

The core Xbox 360 package may not have all the accessories that the full-system package offers, but the core package offers just enough to start gaming. The $299 core system includes the console, a force feedback wired controller, and composite AV cables. You'll need to pick up a separate memory card if you want to save your game progress and get access to Xbox Live. Since the hard drive is optional, games will be designed with the core system in mind, without requiring the hard drive.
