Herzog, Linklater Munich bound

MUNICH -- Filmmaking legend Werner Herzog and indie icon Richard Linklater will be featured guests at this year's Munich Film Festival as part of the fest's 25th anniversary celebrations, organizers said Thursday.
Both filmmakers have been associated with the festival for much of their careers. Herzog was born and educated in Munich, and Linklater's debut, "Slacker," had its international premiere at the festival.
Herzog will be present for the first-ever complete retrospective of his work, as all 52 films -- including documentaries and shorts -- from his 45-year career will unspool. Linklater will preside over a 15-film retrospective of his work.
As Germany's second-largest film festival, the Munich Film Festival has become an important platform for young international filmmakers to launch their careers as well as a more social gathering of the industry than the more market-oriented Berlin International Film Festival.
The festival is set for June 22-30.
