FESTIVAL THEME

The theme for the 2006 Bendigo Easter Festival is "Boomba"!
This theme derived from trying to capture the essence and spirit of the Festival which is a celebration of our local identity and heritage as expressed through the sights, sounds and movement of the annual carnival and Easter parades. "Boomba" represents the carnival atmosphere, the thrills of the carnival rides, the excitement of the street parades, the beating of hearts in anticipation, the rhythm & cheers of the children & families seeing Sun Loong winding down the street, the mixture of sounds made by the Chinese drums and the drums of the Pipe Bands, Boom ..Boom ..Boom Boomba captures the power and spirit of the Bendigo Easter Festival!
This Bendigo Easter Festival & street procession are the oldest in Australia, started in 1871, is today the premier event in the City of Greater Bendigo & Central Vic region. This annual Festival is a great contribution to regional tourism and local businesses.
In many ways, the Bendigo Easter Festival is like "Bendigo's Moomba", but much older, bigger and better!...
