Using the TRS searches, you can search for terms alphabetically, by text or text string, or by source, such as an organization name or document name. The TRS displays a definition for each term, and the terms are categorized by organization and source type. The TRS also displays, where they exist, contextual definitions and hierarchical relationships. The information in the TRS is displayed as provided by the organization. The following searches are available:
- Text Search - queries all terminology information by term, definition, or XML tag (where applicable) using a keyword.
- Information Resource Search - queries all information resources by beginning letter/number, keyword, or information resource type.
- Organization Search - queries organizations by name or acronym.
- Environmental Metadata Gateway - enables users to search the metadata registries using a URL with integrated search capabilities.

All Information Resource Search can access information in two ways:
- To search for a specific word or phrase, enter text (e.g., air) or a text string (e.g., Clean Air Act) in the keyword field. The search will query all information types, unless a specific information resource type (e.g., Glossary) is selected from the pull-down list. The keyword portion of the information resource search queries all text fields (e.g., name, acronym, abstract, etc.).
- To obtain a complete list of information resources for a specific type, select an information resource type from the pull-down list and leave the keyword field blank.

Organization Search
Click on Organization Search to search all the organizations in the Terminology Reference System (TRS).
Environmental Metadata Gateway
The
Environmental Metadata Gateway (EMG)
offers a
Direct Portal to access information in the
SoR registries. Go to the EMG to learn more on how to build
links to the Direct Portal and to learn more about other
EMG features, including Custom Portals and the XML Gateway.
