Digital universe drivel

IDC has been headline-grabbing on EMC's behalf, and very effectively too. Its report on The Expanding Digital Universe - or digital obesity as those of us on a digital diet see it -

NetApp's new FAS3040

NetApp has introduced a new model to its FAS3000 line of block- and file-serving products. They are for mid-range enterprise use for Fibre Channel or iSCSI storage area network (SAN) storage or for network-attached storage (NAS) use.

HP connecting blade servers virtually

HP has a new Virtual Connect technology for blade servers.

The idea is that instead of having individual Fibre Channel HBAs for every blade in blade server connected to a Fibre Channel SAN the HBAs are connected to the entire pool of blade servers thus making it much easier to add or remove blades from the server. It means that the FC HBAs are connected to the blade server chassis and the HBAs connect to individual blade via a virtual connection scheme. It needs special HBAs and both Emulex and QLogic have announced these.
