Broome's career encapsulated a golden era of showjumping in Britain.

In 1968, he claimed his second Olympic bronze and, two years later, became the first British male rider to win the World Showjumping Championship.

He was still flying the flag two decades on when he competed at the 1988 Olympic Games.
