Certainly one of the best Sherlock Holmes episodes. Basil Rathbone is at his best and makes such a perfect Holmes. Good mystery, intriguing and interesting. The direction and photography are quite good. Atmospheric, effective score.

More commonly known as Silver Blaze. It's another good Sherlock Holmes tale, this one tends to wander a bit now and then but it is still interesting and well done. Arthur Wonter is not as good as Basil Rathbone as Sherlock, but he does well.

Interesting early Sherlock Holmes film with Arthur Wontner as Holmes. The story is a bit extreme, but it is still good and interesting. Good supporting cast is a plus.

6.5/10. Still very potent mystry thriller with Arthur Wontner making a very good Sherlock Holmes. Fine writing, well acted and very compelling, iun spite of it's age. It has held up very well over the many years.

3.5/10. This National Lampoon entry is much more family oriented than nearly all their films since, especially recently. This one will only get a smirk out of adults from time to time, but kids might like it. So if you are expecting National Lampoon's usual T&A, this is not the film for you.

Cybill Shepherd tries to breathe life into the bland story, and her performance is indeed good, but the film moves along as slow as it's southern setting. It was watchable, but barely so.
This one was even worse that Jungle Girl! Poor acting, cheaply made and a really bad television series.
3.5/10. What a preposterously dumb family television show. Ludicrous plots, bad costumes and special effects. Dumb things like where do they get gasoline for their Jeep? How do they charge their video camera?

Astonishing silent film, Douglas Fairbank's performance is amazing and so energetic. Superb cinematography. The film may be over 80 years old, but it is still engrossing and exciring. Great story, impressive sets and costumes. A must for srious film fans.

This would be much more appreciated by fans of Gene Wilder and Gilda Radner. I like both of them, but would not call myself a fan of their type of humor. This is an enjoyable film however. Often times very funny. One of Wilder's better efforts.

5.5/10. Not one of Angela Lansbury's better films, but she does keep you interested. Colorful pirate movie, pretty ordinary and nothing special. the cast tries and does a good job.
5.5/10. It of interest primarily due to it's historical value. This early talkie has not held up well over time - the acting is stiff and stagy as well. But it must have been impressive in 1930.

Robert Newton's hammy performance is ideal for the Long John Silver character. It is the role he is most identified with and he is great. Following this film was a television series with much of the same cast.
It starts out wonderfully - fresh, original and fascinating. As the film goes on, it starts to lose credibility and goes way over the top. The light and enjoyable beginning is marred by the very heavy handed treatment midway through up till the end. All the performances are remarkable, Edward Norton in particular and Helena Bonham Carter in a role very offbeat for her. Great score, excellent cinematography.

6.5/10. Very enjoyable and entertaining mystery with nice comic touches throughout. Terrific cast, especially the supporting players. Eve Arden is particularly memorable. (She usually is!) Well written with snappy dialogue, fine direction.
Solid "B" film noir, fast paced, exciting and well acted. Taut direction and a lot is done with the low budget of the film. Snappy dialogue. Interesting throughout.
Campy comedy and melodrama, with drag queens as the stars. It can be very funny as well as stupid, but on the whole it works. The cast does what is expected of them and then some.
6.5/10. Dirk Bogarde is such an intense and gifted actor. Alexis Smith gives one of her best performances. Suspenseful, well acted and directed, great score. Very well done.

6/10. DIRECTED BY MAURICE ELVEY. CAST: IVOR NOVELLO, ELIZABETH ALLEN, AW BASCOMB, BARBARA EVERST, JACK HAWKINS, SHAYLE GARDNER, PETER GAWTHRONE, P KYNASTON REEVES, ANTHONY HOLLES, ANDREA MALANDRINAS.
A remake of Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger is a fine early talkie with some fine performances. Ivor Novello is a bit over the top though. Suspenseful and eerie. The film is based on Jack the Ripper.

6.5/10. One of the better romantic comedies of the past year. The cast is charming and have multi-dimentional roles. Stuart Townsend and Amy Smart are a good pairing. Some of it is predictable but it has it's share of pleasant surprises. I enjoyed it thoroughly.Great Londing settings are a plus as well.
