NC police beat

ALPINE/HIGHLAND

DRUGS -- A 15-year-old Mountain Ridge Junior High student was referred to Juvenile Court on Dec. 19 on charges of selling/distributing marijuana in a drug-free-zone. The student was allegedly selling the drugs on school property.

ASSAULT -- Police were dispatched to American Fork Hospital on Jan.

Plans for Embassy Suites hotel unveiled

Excitement filled the Pleasant Grove City Council room as John Q. Hammons of John Q. Hammons Hotels visited Pleasant Grove on Tuesday to meet with city and county leaders, unveil a picture of the upcoming Embassy Suites Hotel in Pleasant Grove, and talk to residents about the importance of the project.

Sixth annual LDS Film Festival kicks off with premiere, contest

In its first ever opening night gala, the sixth annual LDS Film Festival will kick off Jan. 17 at the SCERA theater in Orem with a free premiere of Ryan Little's "The Outlaw Trail."

"The opening night is one exciting addition to the festival this year," said Christian Vuissa, founder of the LDS Film Festival.

Lindon mayor looks forward to a productive 2007

Lindon Mayor Jeff Acerson experienced a busy year in 2006 and looks forward to a productive 2007.

"Being mayor is a very good experience," said Acerson. "I am very privileged to represent the city."

Some important happenings in 2006, according to Acerson, were the opening of 700 North, the purchase of additional property for the cemetery and the improvements to city parks.

Lindon receives national award for annual audit review

In its annual audit review, the Lindon City Council showcased a national award received for the audit, as well as reviewed the high and low points of its findings.

The Distinguished Budget Presentation Award, presented to Lindon City by the Government Finance Officers Association, gives nation-wide praise to the city for organization and presentation of the budget document.

Parents, school board members have standoff at Noah Webster Academy

Police were called to a meeting at an Orem charter school last week after several heated exchanges, and parents who were soliciting signatures demanding a no-confidence vote of the school's board were ordered off school property.
