Gallery: New LOTR Online Screens

Turbine just upped a bevy of new screen for their upcoming massively multiplayer online game Lord of the Rings Online: Shadows of Angmar. Better still a spent a little time over the weekend in the beta, I'll post my impressions later today. Brian...

but exactly how is it "just like WOW?"

is it too easy? and non-penalizing?

is it filled with L33tSpeak?

are they huge "!" above quest-giver's heads?

is this BETA *really* just like WOW, or is this a knee-jerk reaction.

Wii Remote & Classic Controller In Unholy Union

Reader Chris Williams is studying a PhD in mechanical engineering. He's also a man with a theory: I thought you guys might be interested in a little weekend project of mine. I fabricated a clip that attaches the Wiimote to the Classic Controller that uses the "mysterious" 3rd shoulder button. I've always hypothesized that the "mystery" button (un)connects an as-of-yet unreleased clip that would allow you to attach your wiimote to the Classic Controller.

1. The PS1 gamepad is the evolution of the SNES controller. It is not a cheap ripoff, if you honestly believe this I have some snake-oil I wanna sell you.

2. Nintendo's "D-Pad" is much older then the Famicom/NES controller. It dates back to the handhelds of the 70's. It's "as old" as the 2600.

Japanese Perspective On Console War In America

Another take on something we all have been following. Kotakuite pokemogu writes: This week's Weekly Toyo Keizai, one of the major business magazine in Japan, is reporting the confrontation between PS3 and Xbox 360 in North America. While there is nothing new in this article, it's quite interesting that Japanese businessmen and investors (who are supposed to be non gamers and have never known about the foreign console which has less presence in Japan) are reading this report, because...

there's far more to translating the true feel of katakana/hiragana than "skill." too literal and it's unfaithful, too figuretive and it's painful (see: Power Egg Flavour).

already had a Nihon-jin friend read both versions and she said the translation is "pretty super o.k."

lawl. Im not making that up.

"Powerful Enemy Blocks Its Way in North America"

omg, this sums up that entire article. I stopped reading here. I knew fluff, nationalistic pride, and bad translations were forthcoming.

Kojima Wants To Make Crazy-Assed Zombie Game

Zombies! The walking dead. We love 'em and were so happy to hear Metal Gear Solid Hideo Kojima does too. Though, he loves them in a slightly different way. He tells Edge Magazine about an online game concept of his: The zombie idea I have is a bit different...Imagine a large town where half the inhabitants are zombies. Users would subscribe, get inside the town and get bitten. At that stage they become undead and can't control their character - all they can do is modify the camera angles...

if it has an official "Shawn of the Dead" license, I'll pay just to 'watch.'

Gallery: Everquest: The Buried Sea

It is amazing how a game that was so much a part of my life years ago can now sneak up on me with an expansion when I'm not looking. I received a slew of screenshots for the new Everquest expansion The Buried Sea sometime last night, and when I looked online to find a release date, I discovered that it was yesterday. The update introduces new missions, guild banners, powered armor of sorts, and ship-to-ship pirate combat, furthering the confusion between this and Pirates of the Burning Sea.

going from Meridian 59 (software gfx) to Everquest (hardware gfx) is a memory I'll cherish forever.

Stained Glass Case Wars!

Reader Patrick Kelly has thrown down. Seeing the sweet stained glass case mod we posted a little earlier, he's sent us pics of his own medieval masterpiece. The craftsmanship on Meatwad, and the bottle in particular, is exquisite. Luke Plunkett

holy handgrenades, is the top of that case covered with an array of 92mm fans?!?

if so, and the owner of this cool case-mod is reading, please attach large amounts of lightweight red-foil tinsel (various lengths) to the grills on those blowholes quickstyle.

nice work. respect.

Get A Taste For Professor Layton

Not that you SHOULD need any more reason to get interested in this game, but just in case you're the kind of person who simply must try before they buy, Level-5 have cooked up this neat'o web-based demo for the game. Oh, and yes, I know it's in Japanese. Them's the breaks. Hit the link for the demo, and wonder, "why oh why can't more DS developers do something like this?"

oh my god!

color my jaded buttocks impressed as all hell.

Clip: The Cock Rocks Vegas

Oh yeah, they're definitely not getting an invite to E3. Brian Crecente

sooner rather than later...

In Spain and parts of the Phillipines, it's tradition to eat your own cock after a grueling gamecock match.

http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/P/B00007LNAB.01._SS500...

cock is more gamey than hen. gotta cook it slow and low. helps to put your cock in a clay pot and simmer it for hours.

(given the sheer boredom that is my job, i'm sure i can come up with bigger, badder cock jokes/puns.)
