Xbox 360 Back In The House

Sunday at 7:00pm, my Xbox 360 made its way back from the Microsoft repair center in Fukushima, Japan after it crapped out earlier this month. That makes roughly days it took to tune up my 360 and get it back to me. Since I didn't get any sort of email/phone call/etc from Microsoft, I called up support on Friday afternoon. The man I spoke with said it took about ten days to service the console.

I think my xbox crapped out at exactly the same time as Ash's.

According to UPS, it's in Louisville right now and should be here (Chicago) by Wednesday...

ParaWorld's SEK Closing Down?

It sounds like game developer SEK, the people behind prehistoric RPG ParaWord, may be going the way of the dinosaur. No, I don't mean a giant meteor is headed toward earth, or they're all smoking. Blue's News points out that a recent update on the site is essentially a fond...

Nice "Far Side" reference there, Crecente.

Shame about the dinos though...

This Day in Gaming, January 21st

1994: Nintendo releases Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3 for Gameboy in Japan. It's Wario's first appearance as a playable character, even if the Gameboy screen meant he wasn't sporting his trademark yellow suit. Damn is that thing snazzy. He must get way more tail than Mario. 1998: Capcom releases Resident Evil 2 for the PS in the US. It's a solid follow-up to an amazing first title.

Are there any sequels (I'm talking second iterations - not later abominations *hmmmph*Sonic*hmmmph*) that are significantly worse than the original?

I'm struggling to think of any - well ones that haven't changed the core gameplay anyway...

Although the storyline in Perfect Dark was shite...

The New Adventures of Captain S

I love ScrewAttack. They never cease to amaze, horrify and otherwise entertain me with their collection of some of the best fan based game videos from around the country. The Angry Nintendo Nerd, GameJew and Chet and Ace's Awesome Video Games Show are all part of the ScrewAttack stable of loveable oddballs headed up by impresarios Stuttering Craig and Handsome Tom. The boys dropped me a line about the newest addition to their little family, The New Adventures of Captain S.

Er, right...

And I hate to get all pedantic over this, but isn't that the Master System light gun? Surely he should be wielding the mighty Menacer!

I think I just cried a little on the inside for that...

Saturday Morning Fun: The Master Chief Dress Up Doll

Ah, this hearkens back to the days when my game closet only had board games and Colorforms ruled the day. I always loved Colorforms and you could safely play with them without being considered too girly. They were really just the boy version of paper dolls, but shhhhh, don't tell anyone. Believe it or not, there is a whole website devoted to these virtual Coloforms/paper dolls.

What happened to Lara Croft's face?
Honestly, if I was still in school I'd be using some horrendously offensive nicknames for anyone who looked like that...

Of course, now I'm grown up, and those kind of things don't cross my mind. Anyway, it's called "Scope" now.

New Seaman 2 Details

The Japanese official site for Seaman 2 has been seeing some recent updates in anticipation for the game's March release date (overseas, natch). Most notable have been the amusing clips of Japanese school girls and salarymen confronted with their first Seaman experience. The girls harass and abuse their pet, while the salaryman just tries to strike up a conversation. Neither are very skilled.

Was the line "amusing clips of Japanese school girls ... confronted with their first Seaman experience" really necessary?

We've all seen those clips anyway.

Clips: Happy Gameboy Cartoon Funtime!

To lighten things up a little after the intense turn my last post took, I thought I would offer you all some cartoony Gameboy fun! *stares, mouth hanging open in horror* Michael Fahey The Masturbating Gameboy [Bits, Bytes, Pixels and Sprites]

My goodness... it just lolls you into a false sense of security - then hits the real message home. Though after watching it, I challenge anyone to name the company the Gameboy was shilling for.

I think Sony was going to try something similar for the PS3, but someone told them all the cool kids are cup stacking on the street corners.

Sony Advertises Wii Game

The Official US PlayStation site often showcases the latest games for the PS2, PS3, and PSP. Now they seem to be branching out a bit, if the description of Metal Slug Anthology is any indication. It's not technically an error. I mean, it is the greatest array of Metal Slug titles ever assembled for the Wii after all. Probably not a good idea to remind customers that the game is already available on a major competitor's system, but who am I to question Sony's marketing tactics?

Smooth...

Nice to see the Sony clangers are company wide and not just at the executive level.

Oblivion Shivering Isles Pics, FAQ

Bethesda Software just sent out the official press release for their upcoming Shivering Isles expansion pack for Oblivion set to hit this spring. The pack will feature more than 30 hours of new gameplay set in the realm of Sheogorath. It will also have new creatures, weapons, armor, ingredients and sub quests. STORYLINE: Enter the world of the Madgod - the Realm of Sheogorath. Inside this torn plane reside the sublimely creative and the completely psychotic.

I just wish they could gather together all the add-ons for a disc for the 360. I'm sadly without Live... The fact that they aren't suggests a couple of things:

1. They don't want to confuse core users without a HDD, as the add-ons have to be downloaded to the disc.

2. There's no way to prevent people passing round the disc - if you're not connected to Live a keycode is not going to matter much.

3. There's still plenty of add-ons to come.

My fingers are crossed for the third option. How about some more Daedric Planes. Sanguine is just screaming to be investigated...

And yes, aegis, Sheograth is the king of the rain of flaming, dead dogs...

Microsoft Says Half Of 360 Owners Didn't Buy Original Xbox

Pssst. Listen to this blurb from Microsoft's Chris Satchell: We've sold 10.4 million, but the stat you may not have heard is that over half of those sales are from people that didn't own an Xbox 1... So there're lots of new people coming in, which kind of surprises you. What we're actually finding is that our customer set is broadening, which we think is important.

I had an Xbox, now lording it up with my 360 - well until it bricked on me last week.

And sweetasman01, it's pretty well known that when MS replaces a bricked 360 they give you a refurbished model, not a brand new one...
