As if you don't waste enough of your time in a gamer's haze, here's Kotaku: a gamer's guide that goes beyond the press release. Gossip, cheats, criticism, design, nostalgia, prediction. Don't get a life just yet.
Wow, this is a weird one, but so many people sent it in I figured I should share. A 28 year old Rancho Cordova woman has died from her participation in a radio contest to win a Wii. Some clever monkey at station KDND 107.9 out of Sacramento, thought it would be hilarious to hold a "Hold your Wee for a Wii" contest (get it?). Contestants were given water to drink and whoever could drink the most without peeing, would get the Wii.
This is story is so tragic. I can't imagine how the kids are going to be after this event.
What. A. Contest. You want to go to Japan? With a friend? And not *just* Japan, but the Tokyo Game Show. Here's the deal: Today, we're kicking off a contest that will run through the end of March. We're going to run three (count 'em) trivia questions over this period in the form of sponsored polls. Today's is brought to you by Old Spice thank-you-very-much.
First Metal Gear Portable Ops and now this. Must-have PSP games are starting to trickle out! Sega announced Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars. The game uses maps from the arcade version and the Dreamcast one along with Crazy Taxi 2's Small Apple maps. The PSP version will have an Arcade mode (earn bonuses by fast delivery) and Time Trial mode (collect highest fares in alloted time). What's more, there are two mini-games and ad-hoc multiplayer. Schweet!
I don't have a PSP but man do I loves me some Crazy Taxi. It's one of my favorite games for sure. I was actually just playing some earlier in the week. Just awesome.
As for the new ads at the top. What the hell is up that? They're just plain white, as ugly as hell and just take up more space. The one I saw was for free downloads of PSP game.
I walked by the Nvidia booth today, only to get suckered into another playthrough of the CES Crysis demo. My goal this time was to launch as many North Korean soldiers into the air, only to have them plummet to their doom. Muahahaha and all that. Fortunately, the lovely Richard Blakeley from Gizmodo scored some quick footage of the floor demo, so you can check out some of the action.
I'm amused that in the GRAW2 vids you're in a chopper gunning down everything in site and not taking a lot of damage and in Crysis the tables have turned and you (a one man army) can take down a chopper with ease.
So which is it people? We can't have it both ways ^_^
The vibe I'm getting from this gorgeous trailer has a whiff of Miyazaki (think Kiki's and Howl's) about it. Which instantly kicks it up to the top of my DS wishlist. Right alongside something that will teach me Japanese. It's a strange adventure/puzzle hybrid, as you can see most clearly from the gameplay sections towards the end, but I'm sold just on the originality of the setting and the art style.
I agree, the first thing I thought of was the Triplettes of Belleville. It's looks great too. I'll on the list to learn some Japanese too if this is what I get out of it.
On a side note, I'm actually from a town in Ontario Canada called Belleville.
Here's one that doesn't make much sense. Ubisoft have announced that on February 15, Europe will see the Prince of Persia Trilogy on PS2, a pack collecting Sands of Time, Warrior Within and Two Thrones, which will sell for €29.99. Why, Ubisoft? They're not really a trilogy, they're one awesome game saddled with two inexplicably pointless sequels. Europeans, if you still haven't played Sands of Time (and WHY NOT?)
I've never played any of these games, and I have no drive to do so. I really could care less. I guess I'm sort of a snob to Ubi as I don't play any of their games.
Attention Xbox 360 owners: you're this much closer to having Guitar Hero II on your console of choice. Start drooling now at the promise of additional songs and downloadable content. That guitar controller looks wicked hot. Sorry, still no release date on this one.
New York Yankee's captain and the most marketable player in Major League Baseball, Derek Jeter has once again been signed on to be the cover athlete for 2K Sports' MLB game. He was already the cover athlete for the 2K5 and 2K6 games, as well as Acclaim's All-Star Baseball series, which ended in 2005.
He's also got his mug on Gameloft's mobile baseball game.
Blog Q-Taro has a look at Hideo Kojima's (Yes, that Hideo Kojima) stock trading game Kabutore. The game stars a woman named "Nozomi," a former high school classmate you run into ten years later. She invites you to an "online trading coffee shop." Uh, 'mkay. Writes Q-Taro: I've only just started playing the game which begins at a time over a year ago because the Nikkei 225 starts at 12,291.73, and then progresses daily so you can see your investments go up or down...
I would give this game a chance. It looks fun and I might learn a thing or two about stocks.
Learning from a game? o_O I though games where just filled with violence and *gasp* boobies.
This retro clip features Kansai comedian Sanma Akashiya and an intricate Pac-Man parody. Sure, live action send ups are nothing new, but live action versions with pole beatings? That's new. Brian Ashcraft Live Action Pac-Man [TV In Japan]
haha, that was good for a morning chuckle. I love Japanese TV.
