Clips: WarioWare Smooth Moves on the Wii

Set to hit next week, I'm certain WarioWare: Smooth Moves is going to be a Wii must-have. Check out these videos of Mona (above) and the first level. (below) Brian Crecente

I didn't realize this was coming out next week. Awesome. Definitely picking this one up on day 1.

Burning Crusade Flash Mini-Site Launched

With only 3 and a half days (not that I'm counting or anything) to go before the launch of the first World of Warcraft expansion, Blizzard has launched a new mini-flash site for The Burning Crusade. It's chock full of information, shiny Blizzard graphics, and flash mini-games you can play to win fabulous prizes!

Tesz: fINALLY ALL THE HOOLIGANS WILL LEAVE VANGUARD OPEN BETA!WHOOOHOOO!

You're either an absolutely brilliant satirist or a complete moron. I keep changing my mind on which it is.

I'm with you Nicolai. The media blitz of Burning Crusade on gaming sites has me seriously considering going back to WoW. The fact that my old guildies have re-formed into a sleeker guild tuned for 25-man dungeons (and they need the class I played) isn't helping much. I've been out for 6 months, but if I can just get past the release blitz I think I'll be ok.

Correction: NPD Corrects Numbers, Jumps Zelda to Third

A bunch of Kotakuites pointed out yesterday when I did the NPD numbers dump for top games sold in December and 2006, that the group somehow forgot to combine the Zelda Gamecube and Wii numbers for their All Platforms list. Well, the NPD Group must have been listening, because they just sent out a correction that not only adds Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to the top ten, but places it at number three, just under Madden.

thespyderboy: This list doesn't make much sense. As much of a rehash as the game was, New Super Mario Bros. should be on the list as I believe it sold well over a million copies...

The. Numbers. Are. For. December. Only.

NPD: 360 Wireless Controller Top Accessory

The Xbox 360's wireless controller was the most purchased video game accessory last month. I'm sorta surprised that more Remote Controllers didn't sell, but there have been reports of stock issues with Wii accessories. Yep, Wii remotes are just flying off.. shelves.

Well, I contributed my part by buying 3 Wiimotes and 1 Nunchuk so I could 4-play at home over Christmas with the family. Oh, and I also got a nice deal on a Wireless 360 controller for $30 at Buy.com when they were having their "$20 off any $50 purchase" deal with Google Checkout.

So, yeah, I bought the top 3. I'm such a consumer whore.

Vanguard Gets Ambitious Release Date

Just a week after announcing the open beta for Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, SOE and Sigil have set a release date. The game will be released on January 30th across North America and Europe, with retail prices of $49.99 and $89.99 for the regular and limited editions respectively. Players who opt to preorder the game will receive beta access, a three day head start once the game goes live, and a special in-game scroll that allows players to sprint for longer periods of time.

jube3: Well Im in beta and while the game isnt ready for release it does have a ton of potential.

I've read that sentiment a lot over the past couple weeks in the Beta forums, and I was wondering where it came from. I haven't bought a PS3 because I hate paying for "potential" so why would I buy a MMO which by all accounts isn't finished? When did "pay now patch later" become something gamers accept and even embrace?

Cyanbane: or shipping Wow with no end content...

I must've halucinated Stratholme, Scholomance, Upper Blackrock Spire, Onyxia and Molten Core then. Damn those Noggenfogger Elixirs!

baberg: ...drowned out by coverage of the 7 million people...

Excuse me, eight million. It boggles the mind.

It's a mistake launching so close to The Burning Crusade. Any press or blog coverage they may receive will be drowned out by coverage of the 7 million people all fighting to be the first Blood Elf Paladin or Eredani Shaman to reach level 70.

Sony Fires Back at Microsoft

Sony is not taking Microsoft's sass talk lying down. In an interview with GamePro SCEA's head flak Dave Karraker responded to Peter Moore calling the Playstation network a disaster and inplying the company lacks the "DNA" or talent to launch a good online service. "I would argue that consumers worldwide, to the tune of over 200 million PlayStations, PS2s, PSPs and PS3s, have decided whether or not Sony has the DNA to deliver hardware, software and services to suit this industry.

From the linked article (emphasis mine):

...more than one million units of its recently launched PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3™) computer entertainment system have been sold in to the retail channel in North America.

Like this poster says, what does that mean? "Sold in to the retail channel" sounds an awful lot like "shipped" to me. I'm not saying Microsoft's numbers are valid either, but saying "1 million sold into the retail channel"...

It just seems like a lot of careful words were written there to imply that 1 million PS3s are in people's homes but actually just means they've given 1 million consoles to retailers.

All I know is that I can get a 60gb PS3 from Circuit City right now if I wanted it. If I wanted a Wii, well...

Frankenreview - Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions

Capcom's Lost Planet has been hyped since its demo was released around E3, but the fight between man and giant bug is as old as time. We condensed reviews from a variety of sources to decide whether or not Lost Planet was worth your precious time that you could be spending doing volunteer work, and other self-improvement activities. So hit the jump and read up. I didn't make a freakin' bar graph for my own amusement. Ok...maybe I did.

I've got Lost Planet at the top of my Gamefly queue, and just sent back a game today so I'll likely have it by Monday. Truth be told I'm kinda shooter'd out at the moment between Rainbow Six: Vegas and Gears of War.

The reviews I've read are surprising because from all the hype I thought Lost Planet was going to be an AAA-quality game on par with Gears, but I guess it isn't that great. Oh well, that's why we have rentals.
