Why It Rocked: There may not be a tiny speaker in our controller, but that doesn't change the fact that The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess delivers the best sound on GameCube this year. Going beyond the game's musical score and conservative use of voice acting, Zelda delivers a ton of strong audio that helps engage the player from beginning to end. Actions as simple as walking, riding Epona, firing an arrow, or pulling off the classic spin attack are now burned into our brains once again, and that's a true testament to the game's commitment to strong audio presentation. There's of course room to grow, as the franchise hasn't taken the final leap into a full orchestral score yet, but if The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is the new starting point for the series after the playful Wind Waker experience, it's definitely a huge step in the right direction. Twilight Princess not only looks like the Zelda we all know and love, but it also sounds like it.
