News feeds can help you keep up to date with the BBC News and Sport topics you are most interested in.

They are easy to use and, because they are quick to download, are great for people who want to keep across many topics at once, or who want to use them on a mobile device.

You can "personalise" your own list of feeds and even, in some cases, get automatic alerts when they update.

This page explains a bit more about news feeds, how you can use them and the full range of feeds available for your mobile.

What are news feeds?
In their simplest form, news feeds are lists of headlines from the BBC website enclosed in a machine-readable format called RSS.

The feeds contain only a short summary of each story and a link so you can click for more if you want it.

You can choose from up to 300 different feeds from BBC News and Sport. See below for the full list of feeds, which range from world news and business to local news and your favourite football team.

How can I use the feeds?
News feeds are used in lots of ways, but here are two of the more common

  1. Get a mobile feeds application

  2. Some mobile phones come pre-loaded with applications which will "read" feeds for you, but in many cases you will need to download and install something on your device.

Possibly the easiest way to find an application for your phone is to search the internet for the term "RSS feed reader" and your phone or device type.

For example, if your had a Sony Ericsson or a Nokia you would search for "RSS feed reader Sony Ericsson" and "RSS feed reader Nokia" respectively.

Alternatively, you could download the BBC News Headlines Tracker application which uses a fixed selection of News and Sport feeds.

  3. Configure a feeds service on the web using your PC which you can also use on your mobile
  4. Some web-based services which allow you to personalise a list of feeds using your PC and then access the list from your mobile device.

For example you could try the services from Tiggdo.com or Google personalised.

If you know of other services that provide similar functionality, please use the form at the bottom of this page to tell us about it.

What will this cost me?
The BBC doesn't charge for access to news feeds and you are free to use them for personal and non-commercial purposes. See full terms and conditions.

Your mobile network may charge you for any data you download, so check your tariff or PAYG terms.

What feeds are available?
