Self-Assessment Questionnaire for Placement in the Language Program of Your Choice

Instructions

Read each statement carefully, try to image yourself in the situation and then identify how well you could perform in spoken language what is described. Score your ability (0 to 5) as follows:

0: I cannot do this at all.
1: I can rarely do this.
2: I can do this about half the time.
3: I can often do this.
4: I can do this most of the time.
5. I can do this fluently, approximating a native speaker of the language.

*Note: Your speaking level determines which level of courses you may take in the language of choice.
For course placement, your reading or writing or listening comprehension levels do not determine your level.

When attempting to speak the language of choice:

Score 0-5

Scoring

If your total is ­­­­­­­_____ (see below), you may enrol in any in-class or distance education language course of your choice at the:

0-9 beginner level.
10-49 low or high beginner levels.
50-80 low intermediate or intermediate levels.
80-99 high intermediate or pre-advanced levels.
100 or over advanced or post-advanced levels.
