Another way to get in the Halo 3 beta

... by playing Halo 2 - if you're American, at least
As well as confirming Tuesday's news that copies of upcoming 360 big-hitter Crackdown will ship with Halo 3 beta invites, Microsoft has revealed that it will also be offering an easier way to get in on the coveted beta - by playing Halo 2.

Microsoft is calling the method the "Rule of Three" program, where-in playing at least three hours of Halo 2 multiplayer via Xbox Live before Feb 3 at 11:59pm EST (4:59am GMT), and then rushing to Halo3.com be one of the first 13,333 to register, will get you a spot on closed Bungie beta.

Unfortunately, for the time being the Rule of Three program is for US residents only, although Microsoft encourages gamers from other parts of the world to check Halo3.com in the next few weeks for news on the program coming to other parts of the world.

For now at least then, it looks like the easiest way for us Europeans to get in on the Halo 3 testing is to pick up Crackdown on Febuary 23. Don't worry though - from what we've played so far, it's well worth your cash.
