Woman Dies Participating In Wii Contest

Wow, this is a weird one, but so many people sent it in I figured I should share. A 28 year old Rancho Cordova woman has died from her participation in a radio contest to win a Wii. Some clever monkey at station KDND 107.9 out of Sacramento, thought it would be hilarious to hold a "Hold your Wee for a Wii" contest (get it?). Contestants were given water to drink and whoever could drink the most without peeing, would get the Wii.

@Rajio : That made my morning :)

And the radio station BETTER be helping the three kids. Doing all they can not just to avoid a lawsuit, but to show social responsibility

Video Game High Scores Make Guinness

It's been a long time since the Guinness Book of World records has recorded video game high scores in it's pages, twenty years in fact. But, with consoles and portables appearing in more an more homes every day, it only makes sense that the purveyors of the world's largest pizza and the tiniest body microbe would want to include game scores in the '07 version of their publication.

Kind of a joke if you ask me.

Let gamers get their own records book like other sports have. (baseball, football) and not leech 2 pages off of Guinness.

Of course, Gamers in these 'pro' league, actually need to set some records first.

Onechanbara: The Cell Phone Game

We've seen the cute toys, now have a gander at the cute Onechanbara cell phone game. Cowboy-hat-wearing-zombie-slayer gets cell-shaded and over-the-shoulder camera angles for D3 Publisher's CERO Z (the Japanese game equivalent of "X") title. Since its a cell phone title, apparently the game slips under the country's ratings radar. Though, with graphics that kawaii, what's to worry?

after all the kotaku coverage, we better be getting this game. XBL at the least!

Hands On: Def Jam ICON

Def Jam ICON was on the show floor this week and I spent some hands on time with EA's latest brawler packed with Def Jam artists. There are some significant changes for the forthcoming console release, including a change in developers from wrestling specialists Aki to EA Chicago, the studio that brought you Fight Night Round 3. Only two characters were available for play in the demo, Big Boi of Outkast and T.I. of... I have no idea.

poor AKI, the wrestling gods can't find a home

Editorial: Why MTV Won't Buy 1Up

I'm just a simple country blogger, but despite recent rumors about Viacom buying out all or part of Ziff Davis Game Group, I just don't see it happening. There are a number of reasons for this, chief among them is the fact that ZD has tied their print magazines to the deal. In other words, if you don't buy EGM and Games for Windows you can't buy 1Up.

what about Kotaku buys them? ;)

just a -hopefully dear god no no no- thought!

Rumor: MTV Buying 1Up

Citing a highly-placed source, GameDaily is reporting that MTV is in negotiations with Ziff Davis Media to buy 1Up and possibly GameVideos.com. It is unclear if the negotiations include the dead tree publications owned by the Ziff Davis Game Group (EGM, Games for Windows, yada, yada, yada). The GameDaily story touches on the growing interest of MTV in the gaming sector from their sudden drop into game coverage to their acquisition of Guitar Hero developer Harmonix.

No! please no! MTV having -any- foothole in the gaming market is a no-no.

Gamers aren't the 'we listen to what we tell you to' music crowd, nor the endless reality loving show white trash freaks.

Spare us!

Microsoft Got An Emmy, Nintendo Got An Emmy, Sony Got Another...

You here for yesterday's daisy chain of a clusterfuck? What. A. Mess. Now that we've got Sony's SIXAXIS DUAL SHOCK Emmy straightened out, time to shine the spotlight on other winners the National Television Academy honored. Microsoft picked up an Emmy for "Pioneering Work in Near and Real-Time Fully Programmable Shading Via Modern Graphics Processors" for its DirectX technology.

Who collects these things?

Seriously, you can give an award for anyone to anything it seems.

We'll use the pro sports measure of a record to determine the value an award. The shorted the name (Most Homeruns)the greater the renown (verse something like, Most homeruns at home, on grass, while it is raining at night with more then 35,000 fans in attendance)

this "Outstanding Innovation and Achievement in Advanced Media Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers for the Best Use of Personal Media Display and Presentation Technology Pioneering Work in a Near and Real-Time Fully Graphics Processors scored on he Best Use of Personal Media Display and Presentation Technology Pioneering Work in Near and Real-Time Fully Programmable Shading Via Modern Graphics Processors"

Shit simply fucking doesn't fly assholes.

Ashton Kutcher: Nintendo Fanboy

Beauty and the Geek contestant Mario Muscar (has Nintendo tattoo, owns 25,000 comics) has the scoop on the show's producer, Ashton Kutcher. Mario reveals that Mrs. Demi Moore is a Nintendo fanboy and dishes: I did get to meet Mr. Kutcher. He was part of the final interview process, so we had a short interview with him. Apparently, he was on set, but he wasn't actually in view. He talked to me pretty much exclusively about Nintendo.

Cheapshot on Ashton with the girl :P

I'm not sure how this is news. Kutcher likes the Wii. Big deal.

Do we need a celebrity gaming site blog now?

hmmm

Surprise! Dead Rising To Rise Again

Who'd a thunk? A game that moves over a million copies gets a sequel, becomes a franchise. Shocked, we are. Truly. Talking about Dead Rising, Capcom's Mark Beaumont says: When you're at the front-end of a hardware cycle, people are willing to take more of an experiment in what games they'll try. Bringing out Dead Rising has allowed us to establish a new franchise that we can use for years to come.

2:1 we get a MegaMan X suit.

and yeah... GTA: Zombies (dead rising) is a great game, but please don't beat this game into nothing.
