Newell on PS3: A Total Disaster

Yet another industry insider tosses in his 2 cents about the next-gen console wars as Gabe Newell, Marketing Director for Valve, speaking to Game Informer Magazine, gives his opinion of the PlayStation 3 and offers some helpful suggestions for the faltering Sony system. "The PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels, I think It's really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted," said Newell.

I believe when he says PS3 is a disaster, he is talking about the whole conception ..

First, keeping the PS2 concept of "Super Computer" .. raw power instead of a hardware with focus on gaming technology, such as GPU's EDRAM's Physics Chips etc .. Such concept is outdated and kutaragi still persists on it. "Jurassic Park in Realtime! .. a SGI workstation in your home!"

Then they go ahead and try to make the PS3 a single processor and "nothing else" console.. fail .. then a four processor console .. using cell as GPU.. fail .. then they run to Nvidia to get a real GPU .. and everybody knows what Nvidia does to desecrated company's under her tentacles (Saturn/Xbox1).

Then they copy nintendo, fuck-up on the world-wide-launch .. and are possibly losing around 300k for each console .. (reaching a theoretical 30 dollars per game unit licence cost and/or that talk about 10 year lifespan.)

While some of this can be twisted by the media, I believe it consists a disaster.

Rally Cross, GT HD 1.1 Hit PlayStation Store

Some new and new old and old new updates have been posted to the PlayStation Store recently, including Rally Cross for the PSP, which weighs in at a healthy 105MB. The PSone racer is priced at $5.99 and will surely be playable on the PS3 any day now. On the free side of things, Sony has both the Genji Days of the Blade costume pack ready to take up hard drive space, as well as an update to Gran Turismo HD Concept. So what's new about the latter?

Customreality, unless you are PAID to write in uppercase to call atention to playstation brand and promote sony .. there is NO reason for using uppercase .. therefore I must presume you do get paid or you are not exactly human. (As a bot.)

Notice how the uppercase words on my message get stuck in your head, if you have one .. or in your browsing cache.

JK fellow.

Psychotext - You can notice that the Sony Drone 1.1 comes with embebed code for writing PLAYSTATION 3 as all caps, as the patent tell you to.

Rumor: New HDMI 360 Revealed

Engadget has posted a picture of what they are saying is the second Xbox 360, codenamed Zephyr. How is it different from the original? Well the biggest change is the HDMI port, allowing for full 1080p. The second change is the much awaited 120GB hard drive. No word yet on whether the system will come with a built-in HD DVD drive or not. Indeed there is no official word from Microsoft about the system at all. My question?

An actual market fragmentation would be if it actualy changed the "CORE" function of the 360.. GAMING .. it does not.

PS2 had numberous changes along the way .. from losing/winning new input plugs .. to alltoguether losing the capacity of using HDD!!!! ..

All consoles does.. HDMI wasen't SUPPOSED to be there because it does not change how games will be packed later on..

Enough.

Microsoft Rep Says HD-DVD "The Next Betamax"

Ben Kuchera from Ars Technica just got to live the dream. With two Microsoft reps around for tea and biscuits (under the auspices of a demonstration of the 360's 1080p capabilities) he exchanged niceties, locked the door and shook 'em down. The reps were hit with questions about the 360's HDD (as in, why's it still so small, and where the hell is a bigger one?), the microtransaction "debate" (as in, rape is not fun) and HD output.

Wow! first bad article made by kotaku I have seen .. I feel sad.

Rumor: Tekken 6 Not PS3 Exclusive?

Unconfirmed, but the source who correctly said Virtua Fighter 5 was 360-bound now claims that Tekken 6 is headed for the Microsoft console shortly after its PS3 release. This comes in a wake of chatter claiming big PLAYSTATION 3 exclusives like Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4 will make it to the Xbox 360. Two words: Uh oh. Brian Ashcraft Tekken 6 Not PS3 Exclusive?

yurlittlepony, in korean grounds, sony is somewhat like Microsoft in japan. Korean hate japanese.

Microsoft is doing big moves over there as an awnser to the lack of japanese love.

Clips: FFXIII Already Being Advertised In Japan

Look Japan! Final Fantasy XIII is coming! And it's coming to PS3! In 2008. At the earliest. Maybe even 2009. For reference, today is January 2, 2007. I can see their point - like the Halo 3 coverage we've seen over the past few months, it can seem like a good idea to dangle an old favourite in front of the adoring masses to remind them what's in store if they buy your console. But this far in advance? It looks....well, it makes them look a little desperate.

Regula Oblique, I believe it's the other way around. Microsoft has the shitload of new franchises, only in RPG's: Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Cry On, Infinite Undiscovery and Trusty Bell.

Xbox360 has more "new" RPG's then PS3 has everything else "new".

Think the capcom ones then?... if you want to buy Playstation 3 for the "new stuff" get over it. Sony already has trouble keeping the old stuff in.

Feature: The Decline of the PS3 Grey Market

By: Michael Fahey The rise and fall of the PlayStation 3 on eBay is one of the most talked about gaming stories of the year. In order to paint a broader picture, I've tracked pricing trends from preorders to Christmas Eve and surveyed retailers to determine just how hard the PS3 grey market has crashed.

*witness the awesome power of the haiku ban*.

- A simple event of bad investiment for them. Let's hope they learn the lesson. Doub-it.

Most Innovative Games? Yes, Most Innovative Games

As the intertubes get filled with "best-of's" and "top whatever" lists (look forward to ours!), Michael Zenke at his MMOG Nation blog has a thoughtful round-up of the most innovative games over the past two years. (There's also a list of least innovative games, so swing by, check 'em out.) Here are the best three with choice sound-bytes: Half-Life 2 This, right here, is 'next generation' gaming.

Innovative Games:

Gish*
Eets
Burning Sand
Bridge Builder
Cortex Command*
Sodaplay

And special attention to the Fighting Genre: TORIBASH***.

The title should say "Most Innovative Big Developer Games"

Ashcraft's Blue Dragon

Blue Dragon actually comes with a reversible cover—in case you get bored with silver, I guess. Customers also got sticker face plates (two sets) as well as a mini Blue Dragon pad. Neato! Brian Ashcraft

200 extra dollars + risk of manufacture defects + lack of supply + risk of taking home a doomed media + the games still will need to be procedural to avoid loadtimes (Nevermind blu-ray 2x on that one). ? No thx .. I take the 3 DVD's ...
