O'Reilly fails to take stand against death penalty when presented with opportunity

As has been documented, Bill O'Reilly frequently feels qualified to question and/or condemn sentences given to criminals in this country, and has even instigated protests against the judges who hand down these unsatisfactory sentences. In the case of Saddam Hussein's death sentence, however, he felt obliged to defend the decision of the court (against his own professed opposition to the death penalty) and says the world should respect the decision.

There were no Cost of Freedom financial shows this morning. This is because, as I predicted, the necrophiliacs, voyeurs and sadists at FOX News have decided to wallow in wall-to-wall coverage of two deaths - the execution of Saddam Hussein and the funeral of former President Gerald Ford. Thankfully, I own a remote control device and will be watching anything but cable news channels this long New Year's weekend.

Bill O'Reilly returned early from his vacation to participate in FOX's special coverage of Saddam's hanging which took place around 10PM ET tonight. Although this was a major event for all Americans, he insisted on dividing everyone into his right/left or right/wrong O'Reilly categories with his inappropriate and uneccessary assumptions and accusations.12/29/06

It's not just these ethically-challenged individuals throwing stones.

Yes, indeedy, folks. FOX News can hardly contain its excitment at the prospect of airing the video of Saddam Hussein's execution. One can almost see the saliva dripping from the mouths of the various hosts. FOX started off its ghoulish death watch on yesterday's edition of FOX & Friends with this speculation by Brian Kilmeade: "How about this for a segue? Do you want to see him with a noose around his neck and his neck snapped live on television on Pay-Per-View? What and how will Saddam Hussein's hanging take place? According to insiders, they want to get it done, they want to keep it low profile and they want to do it quick. It's got to happen within 30 days but the Baathists that love him are poised to act."

John Edwards announces bid for presidency; FOX commences tearing him down

Julie Banderas subbed for John Gibson today 12/28/06 on The Big Story and did a short hit piece on Democrat John Edwards, who formally annnounced his presidential intentions this morning. The talking point was casting doubt on Edwards' sincerity about fighting poverty because he is a wealthy man who is spending money on his own home ("an extraaavagant mansion"). Kirsten Powers defended him as Republican strategist Michelle Laxalt opined that one can't be wealthy AND a champion of the poor.

Today on Studio B with Shepard Smith the news was so slow they chose to pay lip service to the Rosie O'Donnell/Donald Trump feud. Smith said that Rosie was calling Trump 'the combover' and compared Trump to to a pimp and said he owned Miss USA and had roughed her up in front of others for his own benefit when she was out of line. Trumps response? Rosie is "a fat pig."

Comment: Thank goodness we can count on Fox to keep us abreast of the latest non news issue that affects no one but the parties involved.

Fred Barnes appeared on Fox & Friends yesterday to share a special experience he had with Gerald Ford. It's not surprising that Barnes chose to share a story that included a negative impression of Hillary Clinton and FOX was glad to enrich his storytelling with photos of Hillary.

Last week, 12/22, Judge Paul Clark threw out charges against Tiller and the same thing happened today in court. Today on Fox On Line with Gregg Jarrett substituting for Bill Hemmer they had a segment with a video of Saddam Hussein with the words *Hang Time* underneath it. Jarrett then went on to explain that it could come as soon as tomorrow, that it has to happen within 29 days when Hussein will "walk to the gallows where an executioner will slip a noose around his neck and execute the courts sentence."

The question of the day on Fox On Line was 'Why Wait To Hang Him?' and the guest was former Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Robert Jordan.
