Kotaku Comments Mon, 11 Dec 2006 04:57:24 EST 9:220720:c723827 Etheo I believe I'm with quite a few people when I say the main reason to get the GC version of Zelda is because Nintendo screwed over us GC owners. I personally purchased a GC two years ago because I heard Zelda was coming out soon, which we all know how it turned out.

Besides, TP was originally created for GC, and just got ported over to Wii. Besides Zelda:TP, there's really nothing on the Wii lineup that's particularly captivating. Plus the fact that the price point at $250 just feel rather expensive, especially counting in the cost for extra accessories and controllers.

In conclusion, I already pre-ordered my GC Zelda. I just hope they'll hold it until I get back.

9:220736:c723825 Dom Hell, if it's rhythm party games you're after, I've had more fun with the dancing sections of Rayman than anything similar - sans Guitar Hero :S

But anyway, as we know - the big secret of the Wii is not how much you move, it's how comfortable and relaxed you can be with your hands 3 feet apart, slouched on the sofa knee deep in Zelda :)

9:220736:c723822 c--b http://c--b.stumbleupon.com Dukhat, you are one curious fellow. How can a game or two compete with the potential of a whole system? Even more confusing, seeing as how you like Guitar Hero and DDR one would thank that you would love the Wii since it practically BEGS to have games of the same vein made on it.

Curious, curious fellow.

Bro, you haven't even *touched* a Wii, have you? I'll tell you this: Wii is the most fun I've ever had with a console, hands down, bar none. And guess what? I've had a PS2 since day *one*, I own nearly 50 games for the system--including DDR and GH--and I'll tell you flat out, the PS2 isn't as fun. End of story.

9:220720:c723817 Kenofthedead http://www.gamedev.net Oh Dukhat , you make me laugh.

Hopefuly Star Trek: Legacy really does come out this week so I can import it. Delays have become quite annoying.

I'm still not sure on Super Swing Golf or not, I'll wait for more reviews.

9:220736:c723814 Warren DeMontague @Dukhat

I don't think you've ever played a Wii. I'd bet the farm you've never played a Wii at a party. Don't worry, you will.

DDR and Guitar Hero are fine games for people who have played them before and put time into them. Try getting a non-gamer on Guitar Hero or DDR. They try for 4 seconds and put down the guitar/get off the mat after they realize they look dumb AND can't play worth a damn.

When a non-gamer gets on the Wii, they look dumb too, but they're having so much fun they keep playing. They literally fight over the controller.

(And yes, everyone looks dumb playing DDR/Guitar Hero. Even you ;)

9:220709:c723813 Kaneda It's my friend who first introduced me to Doom. He said: "You know Wolf? Well it's way better than this!" At first I thought there was no way that could be true, but then it was. Oh ID, you made my childhood so wonderful.

Oh and one of the first thing he said was also: "And the gun is actually round in this game!" (Meanning the standard handgun was more roundly shaped than the gun in Wolf that was made of like, 4 pixels)

9:220522:c723812 Dukhat I think FFXII is better than any FF since FFVII. The game is actually challenging now, having died several times in the first few hours which has never happened in any FF game. I enjoy the challenge.

As it is, I think I'll pick up the CE edition because I'm a fan of fun extras as long as its not too much more expensive.

9:220758:c723810 Kaneda "Also, wouldn't it feel really awkward and terrible controlling something right next to you, 10 times your height, with a tiny remote"

What, for you there is a relation between the size of the controler and the entity you control on the screen? First time I ever hear that. So you like to have a bigger controler than what you move on the screen?

Sometimes when you play games do you sometimes go like: "Man I wish I could steal that big tank, but I guess I'll go for the bike because my controler is not big enough"?

9:220736:c723809 Erzengel http://erzengel.blogspot.com Somehow they are rigth.
The wii is not a console for the hardcorefraggalotwannabepro gamer, its a family/fun console, something even my mom can play with. So, as its target audience is way diferent, it definitely doesnt need to see sony or microsoft as competitors, and yet, they may win over them.
I still dont own any of the new gen consoles, im waiting for the next SilentHill game to come out, that will decide wich one i get (hope is not uber expensive ps3)

9:220735:c723808 Sunjammer http://skelectronics.blogspot.com Because Gundam looks lame as hell. That kind of design was mastered by Transformers; anything else where the robot has humanoid features and triangular glowing eyes is just generic mecha garbage.

In terms of mechas, i honestly feel the west has taken some of what made asian mecha design interesting to a whole new level. In particular, i thought FASA and Dreampod really nailed it with Heavy gear and Battletech. The closest you get otherwise is probably, yeah, Armored core, but even that is screwing up royally. I enjoy the kind of science fiction that extrapolates from the now and adds some colorful ideas to the mix. As such, i like mechas that make me think they might actually be plausible in some 20-30 years.

I thought Chromehounds was a perfect example of where FROMSOFTWARE went all pearshaped. Not a third of the designs in that game make the idea of a bipedal tank look anywhere near plausible or even practical. Leg damage for the win of all, BAM.

9:220720:c723807 Dukhat I'm getting Zelda on the GC because I don't feel like rewarding Nintendo with a Wii purchase for delaying a great game for over a year on the gamecube just so they can use it to sell Wii's. Because they wasted Zelda on the Wii launch, it'll also be another 2-3 years until we see another Zelda versus only 1-2 had it been released on gamecube.

Nintendo can suck it; I'm not going to spend another 250 bucks to buy a system whose lineup for next year is as kiddie and lacking in power as any year from the Gamecube and N64.

You can't make me pay 200 bucks to play 1 or 2 decent non-kiddie games on your system anymore nintendo.

9:220736:c723806 Warren DeMontague This reminds me of the old joke about the two hunters that stumble across a bear. One starts running, and his friend says "you can't outrun a bear!". The other says "I don't have to outrun the bear, I just have to outrun YOU".

So while Sony and MS are trying to outrun each other, Nintendo's bear will definitely have one of them for lunch.

On a more serious note, it's documented that companies that align their strategies against competitors (as opposed to aligning them for pure profit) end up harming themselves in the long run. I'll post the reference if I find it.

9:220736:c723801 Dukhat I don't need to spend 300 bucks to have "motion" detection. For the same price as the Wii, I can get a PS2 and eye toy, guitar hero, and DDR for the same price as a Wii, all of which are more enjoyable for parties than the Wii atm.

The Wii is all hype.

9:220758:c723799 Sunjammer http://skelectronics.blogspot.com 24fps is a problem? You guys are off your rockers. That's the first time i've heard that as a complaint, and i've worked with filmmakers and SFX personnel for 5 years.

For an example of awesome cheap-o-vision, check out *anything* made on DV or video. 30fps and higher has become a staple of garbagitude, if anything.

9:220758:c723789 PhotoBoy "my main problem with theatres is that the 32mm film only runs at 24 frames per second"

Yeah, I do hope that one day films are made at 60fps, I know James Cameron has been talking about doing it and I think he has a camera now with enough horse power to record 60 film frames per second.

As for big screen gaming via projector, that's exactly the reason I bought one. The bigger the wall the better. Obviously I can't hit cinema screen sizes but a 10ft high picture really puts you into the action (although PS2 games look horridly blurry on it even with component output, most Dreamcast games look nicer thanks to the VGA box).

9:220736:c723787 vicariousmonster Gotta agree that this pic never gets old...

But I think NIntendo is doing the right thing on going their own way hoping that in the end, they sell more than Sony, microsoft or whatever... This means they are aiming for sucess and we are the ones that benefit from this kind of stuff...

Altho I gotta say how pissed I am... :P I got up at 8 am and went to the nearest EB games from my place here in Stockholm just to find out that all the Wii´s were already sold out... I spent my entire morning walking all over Stockholm for nothing... I dont know how many Wii´s Nintendo shipped here to Sweden but it sure sold fast... Hopefully we will have more before christmas...
