"Iga" Loves Castlevania, 2D. His Team Loves The DS.

How. Shocking. Koji "Iga" Igarashi not only LOVES Castlevania, he also LOVES 2D game design. He tells game site Kikizo: As you know I love 2D game development! Yes! We know! I am working really on an underground basis to make it happen on a console game. But then again when you look at the mainstream market, it doesn't want 2D console games. Don't know about you cowpokes in Kotaku-land, but I am hip to 2D and am interested in a big old fashion console Castlevania.

yeah, a new 2D console castlevania would be awesome. and continue keeping it off the psp, please.

Phil Harrison: "Nobody will ever use 100% of PS3's capability"

The always quotable Phil Harrison, president of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, sat down for a conversation Stephen Totilo of MTV to talk all things PlayStation. So what does Phil have to offer? He says that while in-house developed games like Gran Turismo 2 and God of War II max out the PSone and PS2 respectively, no one will ever be able to tap 100% of the power of the Cell-powered PS3.

er, i don't want to PAY, i meant.

and hatramroany raises a good point, heh.

rammer, i don't want to play for potential fun, i want to pay for actual fun.

This Day in Gaming, December 18th

1987: Square Co. releases Final Fantasy for the NES in Japan. It becomes the quintessential software RPG series in the world, managing to balance new stories and ever-evolving style grounded with familiar themes and an intangible Final Fantasy warm fuzziness. And almost 20 years later, Final Fantasy may be a more exciting franchise than ever before. So give it up dearest readers. What are your favorite Final Fantasy moments? Any version will do.

as everyone else has said, the opera scene in ff6. also the whole doma/haunted forest thing. kefka breaking the world. the solitary island. as for ffx (my other favorite in the series), the suteki da ne scene, yunalesca, and the ending.

Final Fantasy Tactics PSP Trailer

Ok, so the cam's a little shaky, it's filmed from an odd angle and there's people walking by, but there's enough here to pique the interest of Final Fantasy fans, I'm sure. No a whole lot of information on where this was taken although it looks to be some sort of medieval castle set with a plethora of candelabras and a nice widescreen T.V. Flynn De Marco ...

donĀ“t blame us. blame yourself, or god.

Warcraft Widows: An Internet Support Group

"Stop leveling and start living!" I heard somewhere one in every three WoW players actually has a girlfriend, wife, boyfriend, or significant other. My guess is more like one in fifty, but that's another story. So, what do those poor ignored partners do when their significant other's significant other turns out to be World of Warcraft? Why, start an internet support group , of course!

chicaneuk, you're a person after my own heart. i'd just as soon not tempt myself--regular internet is enough of a time-sink as it is. and there are plenty of good games that i don't have to pay monthly for. and that i also don't have to schedule real life around... everyone has the friend who says "uh well i can't hang out tonight, we have a raid."

Revised NPD Shows Lower Sales, Good Flamebait

After the NPD Group released their sales data for November, ther was much rejoicing. 1.7 billion dollars! 25% sales increase year-to-date! 34% growth year-over-year! It prints money! However, after some corrections it appears things were slightly less spectacular than originally predicted. Step away from the ledge. It's nothing to worry about really, just a 9% drop in year-to-date sales. Boring! But here's the fun part.

i really thought the PSP had sold less and the 360 more. interesting.

Final Fantasy's Handheld Ivalice Alliance

If you can't get enough of Final Fantasy XII and Tactics' Ivalice setting, you're in luck. Jump Magazine scans reveal that the upcoming FFXII: Revenant Wings is just one of three games sharing the setting coming to handhelds. Dubbed the Ivalice Alliance, Revenant Wings will be joined by Final Fantasy Tactics - The Lion War on PSP, and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 - The Sealed Grimoire.

i'm glad the PSP version is a port rather than its own game... so i won't feel like i'm missing out on anything (just as i haven't been all along) by not having a PSP. :P

What Does Dragon Quest IX On DS Mean?

As we reported last night, Square-Enix is bringing its top-selling RPG franchise Dragon Quest to the Nintendo DS. The real one. Not another slime adventure. And not a spin-off. The genuine article. This came as quite a shock to pretty much every console role-playing game fan and nearly every console fanboy who aligns himself or herself with a single company.

all i know is that screen looks awesome; i miss the days of quality rpg's that looked like that. so i think this is great news.

360 & PS3 Battle Over Scratched Discs

The battle for next (this?) gen supremacy just got that much more tedious. Opposable Thumbs ran a test a couple of days ago, sticking a bunch of scratched DVDs (dominated by the blockbuster "Bob the Builder Saves Christmas") into both a 360 and PS3, no doubt in an attempt to come up with some kind of tie-breaker category warring fanboys could use to leverage supremacy over their opponents. The 360 choked, spluttered and flat-out refused to play them. The PS3?

um, twenty5, they're being sarcastic.

and this isn't a sony-biased site. perhaps nintendo- or microsoft-biased, but definitely not sony.
