Kotaku Magu: Game Creator New Year's Cards

In Japan, New Year's postcards are the equivalent of Christmas cards. Called "nengajou," they are sent in late December. Nintendo Dream has a bunch of New Year's cards from famous game creators. Actually, most of them seem to just be autographs with New Year's messages scribbled in, but they're still pretty neat. Above is Shigeru Miyamoto's, complete with a self-portrait and drawing of Nintendo president Satoru Iwata. Hit the jump for the rest!

"Megaseven says:

I wanna see the rest of that card that you can see the top of in the pic of the Mother 3 card.
It looks to be Zelda characters transformed into Miis. "

4CR posted big scans of them right...here

Multi-Tap: A Week In Comments

Developers Protest Slamdance Game Festival I have to say, I do understand and respect the reasoning of the Slamdance sponsors, and subsequently the response of the Slamdance festival itself. While I don't agree with it at all, it's business (money) that really has the final say most of the time. The problem as I see it with video games as an art form is in its short and largely one-dimensional history.

""For the optimum picture, you want a 720p TV. (Not that they're easy to find... as most of them are actually 1366x768, aka WXGA... which, as far as I know, is only output by the 360, via the VGA cable - not a single HDDVD/Bluray player or HDTV network actually uses this resolution!) "

Sorry, Fox broadcasts in 720P. They are the only HD channel I know that does. It's quite noticable when watching sports. I can tell A big difference between Fox and CBS/ABC."

He said no network broadcasts in 1366x768, (WXGA) , not 720p

Motorstorm At 1080p & 60FPS? Uh...No And...No

Sorry, PS3-owning HD aficionados: Motorstorm isn't going to be running in 1080p at 60FPS, despite David Dille saying this week that it would. Instead, it's going to be running at 720p. At 30fps. Which is...well, some will say it's lying, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was "information mismanagement". Sony, really, you need to fact-check this stuff before making it part of a keynote address.

"What a bunch of whiny spoiled brat kiddies we have here. Who gives a fuck if it doesn't do 1080p, I'm still playing mine on a 20 year old tv! The game looks great regardless, and it's FUN. Many seem to forget what games are about. I'd rather play something fun than look at a pretty game that's about as enjoyable as a hangover.
"

That isn't the point, like people have pointed out, the point is that Sony has been announcing that their console is TRUE HD and that this game is 1080p which it isn't.

Live Camera Support for C&C; 360

Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars could give Xbox 360 fans a bit more live-action cinematic than they've bargained for, as EA announces Xbox Live Vision camera support for multiplayer matches. Now instead of just assuming you lost to a brilliant military thinker and feeling better about yourself, you can actively see that it was a bored 14 year-old who handed you your ass. And speaking off ass...

"Ok this is a great idea for something like a multiplayer star fighter type thing, to see your teammates. I would love to have that feature (or hell, that game - where have all the space combat games gone??)... but not for this."

Holy crap that would be so sweet! Along with cool effects like having static and stuff when the guy talking gets blown up!

British Army Considers Gamers As Apache Pilots

In what some will call "genius" but I label "stupid", the British Army are looking to gamers to jump behind the controls of their "new" Apache attack helicopters. The skill in flying the aircraft is to absorb large amounts of information from different sources without becoming flustered. The new generation of computer-game playing youngsters glued to their PlayStations, Xboxes and Game Boys already have some of those skills. Are they sure that's a good idea?

That made me snort my cola out of my nose...that was awesome.

Arcade Flyer Art Saturday: Kickman

Midway's Kickman is an odd one in the video game world as it was one of the first arcade games to feature Pac-man as a guest star outside of an actual Pac Man related game. In Kickman, you control a clown on a unicycle with a track ball and a "KICK" button. Placed on a "3D" cityscape (read: perspective) where happy people throw balloons at you off of the balconies.

Pac-man is a trademark of Midway? Huh? (look at the small text at the bottom of the poster) Isn't Pac-man...Namco's?

Treasure Loves The 360, Radiant Silvergun 3 Nixed

1UP's Sam Kennedy talked to Treasure president Masato Maegawa about his company's upcoming plans, including the oft-rumored Radiant Silvergun/Ikaruga sequel. Maegawa says that while the same team and director of Ikaruga are working on a top-down shooter for the Xbox 360, that "I would have to say that this game is totally different." So why would the developer of hardcore shooters and uniquely Japanese action titles focus on the Xbox 360, which has a meager install base in its home country?

I'm so all over that shooter!

Mia Farrow In Second Life

Okay, so I'm a fan Mia Farrow's movies, and her making a Second Life appearance is seriously cool. Originally, she was slated to appeared in world to discuss the Darfur crisis in Sundan last month, but her talk has been reschedule due a real world fire at Lichtenstein Creative Media, which is helping with the event. New date is January 9th.

That pic is more 'small-mai-farrow-face'

Animal Crossing Puppet Show

I don't need these for practical reasons. The last thing my left hand needs is to owe my right hand hundreds of thousands of bells. It does enough dreary, repetitive tasks as it is. But as plush-like collectibles? Yes. PLEASE. And before you ask, no, you can't get the KK Slider one. For some reason it was pulled, even though you can still get the pink goat and cat girl ones. Nobody wants them. They want KK. Or Pelly. Or Blathers.

I totally want to see that movie...also it'd be sweet if they stuck in Totaka's song somewhere in there, but I doubt it.

Why did they cancel KK's puppet? Would demand get out of hand or something o-O?

Party With The Lost Planet Team

The Lost Planet team wants to party with you, pal. They're holding a promo shindig in northern California to celebrate the launch of the Xbox 360 pre-ordained mega-hit, giving away prizes, holding multiplayer tournaments, and even providing giant mechs for you to pilot. Okay, that last part is just wishful thinking. The official details:You'll have a chance to meet the Lost Planet development team and watch (or take part in!)

...I wish it was easier to travel to the US from Europe..
