Motorstorm At 1080p & 60FPS? Uh...No And...No

Sorry, PS3-owning HD aficionados: Motorstorm isn't going to be running in 1080p at 60FPS, despite David Dille saying this week that it would. Instead, it's going to be running at 720p. At 30fps. Which is...well, some will say it's lying, but we'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was "information mismanagement". Sony, really, you need to fact-check this stuff before making it part of a keynote address.

Is the scaler issues with the PS3 likely to be fixed by a firmware update?

Clip: Godfather on Wii

As I said earlier, this game could go either way with the Wii controls. Right now it looks like it's heading down the kick-ass-gameplay Madden path. Brian Crecente

"Yeah, because the Wii could sense knee movement..."

The motion could simply be moving the controller and nunchuck downward.

Was it just me or did it look like the gum aimer auto locked onto enemies? Seems like it switched way too fast from one to the other.

I hope this does well if for no other reason as to give developers the idea that more adult oriented games can work on the system.

Sony to Include Portable Movie Files on Blu-Ray DVDs

Wow. In a move that runs against what has always seemed to be a deep-seeded paranoia about piracy, Sony told Bloomberg today that they plan to start including portable files on Blu-ray disc to let users copy movies to laptops and other portable electronics.

Just the fact that I actually saw someone type own with an O in the comments makes reading this article worthwhile.

If this is true, and no doubt it would be able to transfer to the PSP, that would be a great move by Sony. They know the UMD format is dead, but doing this could really help both PSP sales and Blu Ray. Here's hoping this isn't full of crap. I'll admit I'm a bit doubtful that this will actually occur, but more power to Sony if they pull it off.

Clip: Xbox 360 HDMI in Action

Well this seems to pretty much 100 percent confirm the rumor of the HDMI-touting Xbox 360. I wonder if it comes with can of petroleum jelly for all of us 360 beta testers. Brian Crecente Exclusive: 360 HDMI Proof - HR Pictures and Video - HANA Scaler [Xbox...

YCS: Only big deal is for 360 users without a VGA input on their TVs that want 1080p upscaled DVDs (component does 480p) and 1080p HD-DVDs (component does 1080i).

No other major difference other than cable clutter and possibly additional audio output options (nothing confirmed obviously).

------------------------------

Thank you for that.

So if I understand correctly all this bitching is about the difference between 1080i and 1080p and that's only for HD-TV's that don't have VGA input?

That's for HD-DVD's, while for DVD's it'st he difference between 480p and 1080p.

Sorry for the repeat, I'm just trying to soak it in, and most likely failing.

Some stupid questions:

If you can upscale DVD's to 1080 i or p. Exactly what is the point of buying an HD or blu ray player? I assume there is a significant difference between native 1080 and upscaled 1080.

Second, if Microsoft never claimed that it's HD-DVD player would upscale DVD's to 1080p why would anyone all of a sudden feel like they have a right to expect it. You bought it knowing full well that that was the case. If the wii were to moronically come out with a versio that all of a sudden support hi-def, you can't bitch about what you bought, you knew full well going in that that machine was not going to support HD.

I know the difference between 1080i and p is probably minute, but even so I can imagine anyone who bought thier external player should be pissed aboutthat. If I buy an HD-DVD player, I'd expect it to play HD-DVD's in any resolution that I can legitimately expect and HD-DVD player to play. As for the DVD's...sorry, I just dno't see what the fuss is about.

Despite these questions, I'll get out of this argument on account that I don't have the knowledge base to really argue one way or another. From my simplistic viewpoint however, I wonder why anyone really cares about this new versino if they've bought an old one. All the games are still gonna be playable on your machine, and I'd imagine that's what you bought this system for.

YCS

Ok I'll ask again.

Unless future HD-DVD's don't work unless going through and HDMI port, what exactly is the big deal here?

Rumor: New HDMI 360 Revealed

Engadget has posted a picture of what they are saying is the second Xbox 360, codenamed Zephyr. How is it different from the original? Well the biggest change is the HDMI port, allowing for full 1080p. The second change is the much awaited 120GB hard drive. No word yet on whether the system will come with a built-in HD DVD drive or not. Indeed there is no official word from Microsoft about the system at all. My question?

As long as the movies in the future can play on the 360 at 1080p without HDMI, then there's really nothing to worry about. If not however, that's a problem.

Analyst: PS3 Dragging Sony Down

The PlayStation 3 analyst hate train just keeps on rollin' with research analyst Michael Comeau's latest piece for TheStreet.com. It's the typical fare, dogging Sony for their pricey inclusion of the PS3's Blu-ray drive and taking Sony to task for losing precious third-party exclusives (including the former time-exclusive Grand Theft Auto) like Guitar Hero and Virtua Fighter 5.

speaking of the PS3 and exclusives, I wonder how much the loss of next DQ game, which I imagine was assumed to go to the PS3, hurt them?

We talk about all the losses to the 360 but it's the DS that may have just taken it's biggest gun yet.

Yes I know you've all probably figured that out by now but it just hit me like a delayed ton of bricks.

YCS

"Sony will learn from it if the PS3 fails?

Since when has Sony learned from ANY mistake they've made? Incredibly over-hyped claims of what the hardware can do? Check. A ratio of 1:1000 for good games vs. shit ones? Check. Incredible arrogance and contempt for their competition? Check. Bullshit fan sites that are just the lamest thing you've ever seen that are supposed to pass for viral marketing? Check."

"Sony is too arrogant and ignorant to learn from anything. If the PS3 fails they will blame consumers for being too stupid to see what a bargain it is - not that they were stupid for trying to push hardware that people don't want into their homes - and what's more - making them pay through the nose for it."

When things go below expectations companies HAVE to learn from it. If the PS3 goes to 2nd or 3rd (or in Sony's case even a very small margin 1st) in the sales rankings how can you expect them to simply stay the course? Espeically as they lost so much money per unit on the PS3. To expect them to continue their current model would be ridiculous. Once upon a time Nintendo was more arrogant than Sony. Funny what a beatdown in the hands of your competitors can do.

As for the forcing of blu ray upon us. As much as I hate to say it, if it helps them win the blu-ray HD-DVD battle, it'll be hard to criticize the decision. Even if Sony loses out to the 360 and Wii and sells lets say 30 million PS3's. That may be enough to tip the scales in thier favor. With consumers not taking to HD-DVD or Blu-Ray like they did DVD's an edge like that could be huge. For Sony that might be even more important than who actually wins the console wars.

"I hope they get a kicking of a lifetime this generation to bring them back down to earth where they can eat humble pie and beg for people's money come PS4."

I think you'll get that to some extent. At the very least you won't hear Ken yelling out ridge racer ever again, and in and of itself would be enough change for me.

YCS

Give me a break, even if people's worst (or in fanboy cases best) case scenario's hold true SONY is not just gonna shrivel up and die because of the PS3. The PS3 has had a lot of mistakes but it's still one hell of a machine, and will at the very least hold its own this generation. They may get battered and somewhat beaten this year, and hopefully they'll lick thier wounds and learn from thier mistakes by the time the PS4 rolls around. This market can handle three competing companies, so I don't see any one of them selling to the other two. There's too much at stake for anyone of them to just give up.

PSP 60GB HDD Version Imminent?

The above image, uncovered by our Gizmodo brothers, is from a Samsung presentation showcasing the company's 60GB 1.8-inch hard drives. While this isn't exactly confirmation that such a device currently exists, the continuing rumors and unlikely situation that such a slide would be shown without such a product in the works lead us (me) to believe we'll see an announcement soon. But, as the tag suggests, we're calling it rumor for now.

As long as games aren't split amongst those that require the hard drive and those that don't, and that they do like enigma suggests and make this one at 250 or so and drop the price of the original model, and as long as they make money on each unit sold as opposed to losing money on it like they are doing with the PS3, then this is a great idea.
