Correction: NPD Corrects Numbers, Jumps Zelda to Third

A bunch of Kotakuites pointed out yesterday when I did the NPD numbers dump for top games sold in December and 2006, that the group somehow forgot to combine the Zelda Gamecube and Wii numbers for their All Platforms list. Well, the NPD Group must have been listening, because they just sent out a correction that not only adds Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess to the top ten, but places it at number three, just under Madden.

cybereality says:
Cars sold more than GoW, so pathetic.

Cars sold better than Gears of War... on NINE PLATFORMS.
Look here. INSANE.

Scazza says:
Microsoft says 3million sold, they say 800k...umm?

Don't be dense. This is for December in the US only.

NPD: 360 Beats Wii, PS3 in December

While the launch-to-launch numbers comparison isn't very pretty for the 360, the straight December-to-December numbers are pretty damn impressive. According to NPD, the Xbox 360 came out on top across the three next-gen consoles, selling 1.1 million units compared to the Wii's 604,200 and the PS3's 490, 700. The across-the-board winner for the month though was Nintendo's DS, which sold 1.6 million shiny units, followed by the PS2 which sold a whopping 1.4 million.

vgcharts.org or any site showing game sales data that's not based on media create or NDP is just guessing, and usually wrong.

Clips: GRAW 2, Nuff Said

Hit the jump for two more. Man, I just can't get enough of this stuff. And that airstrike video (number three). Holy shit! Brian Crecente

It looks fantastic. BUT!

I have a but here.

BUT.. because the game is now being developed also for the PS3 as well as the 360, I suspect it won't be much of a leap over the last game. They'll make it look the same on both consoles without pushing things too far.

Clip: Bust a Move Wii

Some sweet Bust a Move action ala Wii. Not sure how necessary it is to have Wiimotion control for this game, but I suppose it could be fun. Come on Nintendo, where's the substance, I want substance. Brian Crecente

You ask for substance, but when the Wii is riding such a high on consumer impression, you'll be getting minigames for 1 year.

So, How's Xbox Japan's Support Center?

Eds Note: Bashcraft's Xbox 360 crapped out. He's dealing. Earlier today, I phoned Xbox Japan's Support Center. I was put on hold for five minutes plus (The hold music? Country!) before I got a live voice. While I've heard confirmed rumblings that Microsoft outsources its support, that doesn't seem to be the case in Japan. A female rep answered my call, asked what the problem was. "My 360 keeps freezing up during play." "What color is the light on the power button?" "Green."

Almost every single technology company has Indian Call Centers. It's not like it's a Microsoft only thing. Its industry wide.

Like Gears? Prepare For More

Robbie Bach on Gears at CES yesterday: That title is now a Halo-like franchise. We think it is an evergreen platform that we can continue to leverage for a long, long time. You mean milk to within an inch of its life? I liked Gears, I really did, but it's no Halo. If there's going to be more games in the Gears franchise, they're going to need to sit down and work out a way to flesh the thing out.

How often did Microsoft MILK its own franchises? They're VERY good with them. Halo is a huge hit, so why is there only 2 games in 6 years? THEY'RE MILKING THE SHIT OUT OF THAT PUPPY. Never say that Microsoft milks anything when you have Nintendo which uses its mainstay characters to sell ANY game type.

Shitty soccer game? Not when your playing with Mario! Now it'll sell!

Ode To An Arcade

Dick McVengance over at Destructoid has written a great article lamenting the decline of the old school arcade. With the rise of home consoles, the existence of actual arcades have become fewer and fewer. More often than not, arcades are now relegated to Chuck E. Cheeses, Mini-Golf courses and the occasional movie theater lobby. I remember the arcade I used to frequent near my house and how much I used to love it.

Jimmycanuck: That's looks EXACTLY like the arcade that used to be on Yonge St. just north of Dundas, In Toronto. I spent YEARS playing in that arcade in the 80s and 90s. I wonder where they got that picture.

Clip: Xbox 360 HDMI in Action

Well this seems to pretty much 100 percent confirm the rumor of the HDMI-touting Xbox 360. I wonder if it comes with can of petroleum jelly for all of us 360 beta testers. Brian Crecente Exclusive: 360 HDMI Proof - HR Pictures and Video - HANA Scaler [Xbox...

This could be a well done mod. Who knows. I'm going to wait and see.

Also! I'm so upset that my 360 is USELESS NOW! Without an HMDI connector, it just don't work!

PSWii Winner's Thank You

Chad, also known as that guy married to that woman who sang a song in our PSWii60 contest, wrote to spread his joy at now owning all three next-gen consoles. I just wanted to thank your company for sponsoring the PSWii60 contest with Pinger. My wife is wonderful, to say the least, and just the thought of entering this contest for me was good enough. I had no idea she would actually win, but I tell you, I was pretty darn happy! Now, what is a man supposed to do with all 3 systems?

Not regarding the article, but the picture. It's funny to remember how everyone was using bad guestiments about ps3 size a year ago.
