Trial Set For Xbox Baby Killer

Tyrone Spellman, 25, will stand trial for the September murder of Alayiah Turman whom he beat to death after the 17-month old girl knocked over his Xbox 360. While playing a game of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, Alayiah pulled the console down with the attached controller. Spellman then "popped her in the face and then tossed her in the chair", killing her. No word on whether prosecutors would seek the death penalty in this case. Sad.

You know, if we'd stop wasting so much money on prisons and these fancy "lethal injections" and just push them all off of a high cliff, things would be much easier.

Ooh, maybe trials could be replaced with a life or death round of Tetris or some logic puzzle!

@solidefy

Agreed. It's not like he killed the child with the Xbox, so I don't see the necessity to label him as such.

The Amazing Ass-Shaking Wario Ware Smooth Moves Microgame

My desire for Wario Ware Smooth Moves is like flame with the intensity of a million suns burning deep within my heart. This particular mini-game, which smacks wonderfully of both Space Channel 5 and Rhythm Tengoku, just adds more fuel to that raging video game lust. Yes, you must not only smack your ass in time with the beat, but you must also perform the intermediary dance moves or face scorn from your dance squad.

Even just watching THIS I couldn't stop moving a little in my computer chair with the music and moves.

This scares me. In the best. way. ever.

U.S. Safety Commission Keeping an Eye On Wii

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has reviewed the new straps for the Wii remote but plans to keep an eye on future issues, a spokeswoman for the commission told Kotaku. "We will be watching to see whether or not the change is effective in reducing the reports," said Julie Vallese, director of information and public affairs for the commission. She said that there are two ways in which the commission can get involved in a product safety issue.

It pleases me they seem to have taken the initiative in reporting it instead of being reported. Oh sure, you can view it as purely a PR move, but it is at least a nice one.

You get an A+ for effort.
Crecent, you get an A+ for good reporting and not having any typos in the headline! Yay!

AP: Nintendo "Recalls" 3.2 Million Wii Straps

Looks like Nintendo, while a bit slow to react, is taking the classy way out of their flimsy Wii strap fiasco. After staying mum on the issue since launch, the publisher finally admitted they had an issue to the Associated Press and then announced that they are replacing Wii straps for those who would like the peace of mind of knowing that when they play Wii Sports they won't be caving in the front of their $3,000 plasma screen.

Y'know, I think I'm keeping my "classic" strap.. I like to think of it as the classier, soon to be rarer version now. *petpets* It's okay baby, daddy'll never give you back.

So let's see, quick, low-hassle replacement of those first defective Wiis, replacement of a strap that people are still divided about being an issue... Two nice big points for Nintendo's hardware management there.

So, when's Sony going to recall the PS3? Not necessarily for any hardware problem, per se (though I don't trust that internal power supply), but mainly for just being a monster that really doesn't offer much more than the 360.

Sony: 2 Million PS3s By Year's End, UK ASAP

Three days ago Sony Computer of America's David Karraker assured the world that the have fixed all Playstation 3 manufacturing problems and that the company remains focused on getting 1 million PS3s to stores by the end of the year. Today Sony Corp's President, Ryoji Chubachi, reaffirmed that, saying that Sony is sticking to its target of shipping 2 million PS3s by the end of the year. "It's true that availability has been a bottleneck," Chubachi said of the PlayStation 3.

I laughed so hard I wet myself.

Wii Breaks Aussie Launch Record

While the 360 stutters, and the PS3 continues to elude Australian shores, the Wii has stormed in and set a new record for a console launch. And Rose Lappin, Director of Sales and Marketing for Nintendo Australia, is understandably chuffed: The launch of Wii has been a fantastic success for us. We aim to bring gaming to the masses and I think we have taken some large steps in the right direction.

The real achievement here is: No matter how incompetent certain employees(minus the s) down there, Nintendo still did very well. Yay.

Clips: Nerdcore for Life

I was browsing around YouTube when I stumbled on this new video for the upcoming Nerdcore for Life documentary. It sounds like the documentary includes a chunk of performances from the latest Penny Arcade Expo too. Brian Crecente

Bah, any REAL nerd knows that you must musically express yourself through techno.

Gaming rap.. the idea makes me die a little inside.

Wii Autopsy Discovers Manufacturing Cost

The Wii has been cracked open, its entrails spilled, its blood consumed and its organs dissected, categorised and sold off to the highest bidder. The market value for each is as follows: Graphics chip: $29.60 CPU: $13.00 DRAM: $7.80 Optical disk drive: $31.00 Power supply: $11.30 Manufacturing cost: $19.50 Cost total: $158.30 Wholesale price: $195.99 If these guys have done their sums right, Nintendo are making just under $40 profit on every Wii sold.

No matter what the profit is, we know there's still profit being made.. and that's more than the competition can say.

I like their more conservative business strategy here. I think it's the way I'd go, and no one's more tight-fisted than me.

The Unbreakable Wii Strap: Handcuffs

Reinforced Wii-mote straps on for wimps. Real men play Wii Sports tennis with haymaker shots wearing half a handcuff. Michael McWhertor Infinit Power Forums [via Looney Gamers - thanks, John!]

Meh, I'm just going to offer to surgically graft them to people's hands.
