Free Trip To Tokyo Game Show Question #2

And it continues! Our amazingly wonderful We're-Sending-Two-Knuckleheads-To-Tokyo contest. Here's the deal: We've got a contest that will run through the end of March. We're going to run three (count 'em) trivia questions over this period in the form of sponsored polls. Today's is brought to you again by Old Spice thank-you-very-much. To one reader who gets all three questions right, we'll give you tickets to the Tokyo Game Show in September and round trip airfare for two to Tokyo!

Once again it's not allowing me to vote. It just kicks me back to the main page again. Hopefully that link that someone posted earlier works fine.

CliffyB Touches Everything With His Gun

Actual paper magazine Paste pinged us with a feature on Gears of War mastermind CliffyB. I hadn't seen the mag before (looks good), and apparently it's drafted in writers like our own often AWOL, but dear Alice Taylor and Joystiq's Kyle Orland. The CliffyB piece has some nice quotes, including this doozy: We make games about guns because making games about talking is hard and not interesting yet.

"We make games about guns because games with stuff like stories and characters are just so dang hard."

Don't get me wrong, shooters have their place. But to admittedly focus on shooters because that's the path of least resistance? Kind of a surprising admission.

Rumor Smash: Msoft Not Buying Capcom

The Rumor: Word is beginning to trickle down to fitbabits HQ from several independent sources that Microsoft has all but completed the purchase of Capcom. I'm not going to spell out the ramifications if this one is true, but I will mention two words and a number - Resident Evil 5 The Smash: While no one will officially comment on this rumor (We all know and love that song and dance). It appears this particular bit of gossip has roots in a thread that hit NeoGaf on Jan. 10.

Actually Crecente, this rumor doesn't appear to have anything to do with that NeoGaf thread. The guy at Evil Avatar is claiming that he's got a couple sources that are rumbling about it, and it doesn't sound like his sources are an internet post.

I think EGM also posted a similar rumor a few months ago, so this could have legs.

Obviously, I have no idea if any of this is true or not, but I just don't think it can be dismissed because of one or two forum threads that may or may not have anything to do with what's going on.

We're Sending Two to the Tokyo Game Show

What. A. Contest. You want to go to Japan? With a friend? And not *just* Japan, but the Tokyo Game Show. Here's the deal: Today, we're kicking off a contest that will run through the end of March. We're going to run three (count 'em) trivia questions over this period in the form of sponsored polls. Today's is brought to you by Old Spice thank-you-very-much.

JoshC, to lend you some credence, I am in fact using IE7 and didn't get the email entry. It just kicked me back to the Kotaku main page like nothing happened.

I did use that link you gave. Hopefully that worked.

I'm assuming the cd is the right answer, since that looks pretty similar to the copy of NFL2K me and my buddy played when he got the system.

I used the link JoshC game, I just wish I felt a little omre secure about my entry. I've got a buddy who would absolutely love this. Oh well, here's to hoping things work out.

I'm not getting any sort of email prompt.

How does this work? How do you know who got all three questions right? How are you gonna pick the winner?

New Gears' Maps Detailed

On Wednesday Gears of War fans will be able to download two new free multiplayer maps for their beloved game. Here's the official descriptions for Raven Down and Old Bones: Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

4 vs. 4 allows for some frantic fights where multiple people are in close fending each other off, but if also allows for standoffs where people use tactics and cover to try and surprise or outposition their enemies.

If you double the number of people in a match, there'd be a lot more of those frantic fights because of the obvious numbers, and there'd be fewer of those fun tactical fights because there'd be so few ways to move around without exposing yourself to enemy number 7 or whatever.

I think 4 vs. 4 is the sweet spot in terms of the variety of how rounds play out and the tactics or lack thereof that unfold over the course of those rounds, which is really what sets Gears apart from most other shooters in my opinion.

All that said, they should probably at least put in an option for somewhat larger games if that's the style of Gears people want to play. Fun is largely about choice, after all.

Pic of Vista Wireless 360 Receiver

Last week when Microsoft sent me a copy of the retail version of Vista they also sent along this cool little PC dongle, it allows you to connect your standard wireless Xbox 360 controllers to your computer. I haven't had a chance to mess with it yet, but plan to next week after I get back from my 12-hour visit to Las Vegas on Sunday. In and out baby, that's how I roll.

OMG! Crecente is a Microsoft fanboy! Look at him pimping MS products. Or should I say, MS crapducts! Ha!

But wait, earlier he hates the 360 when he was talking about that Zephyr thing. Hmmm.

I know! Crecente hates video games! He's a book fanboy! Why don't you go read some Chaucer, you book-bot! Ha!

(Sorry, just poking fun at people busting on Crecente's video game opinions.)

Clips: Japanese Pro Bowler, Cute Popstars Wii-Bowl

La Wii a la tv nipponeUploaded by createur6666 Sure, hardcore gaming skills don't really come in handy while playing Wii Sports. But what about pro-bowling ones? The above clip from Japanese TV shows a professional bowler (in the striped shirt) having a go in a bowling for dollars (er, yen) contest. The result? He picks up a spare. Next up is pop singer Fujii Fumiya, followed by Jpop idol Aya Matsuura. She knocks out a strike and gets a *secret* present (a Wii?).

K's "Music in my Life" is a ridiculously catchy song, but he keeps switching back and forth between English and Japanese, so I always instinctively start singing along only to then have the Japanese parts shut me up. That happens about 15 times in the song. You'd think I'd learn.
