As if you don't waste enough of your time in a gamer's haze, here's Kotaku: a gamer's guide that goes beyond the press release. Gossip, cheats, criticism, design, nostalgia, prediction. Don't get a life just yet.
Looks like German Xbox 360 owners are going to have a harder time getting their Crackdown fix, as the German software ratings board, Unterhaltungssoftware Selbskontrolle, has refused to rate the sci-fi, cel-shady, third-person action game. So what's the impact of a non-rating? According to Gamespot:By failing to receive a rating, Crackdown will have a handful of restrictions placed on its sales.
It's funny... but it's like if you want to know what games to get for the 360, you could simply keep track of what games Germany refuses to rate.
Matt Casamassina over at IGN has posted a blog entry detailing his time spent with a leaked build of an ill-fated DS version of Bungie's baby, Halo. According to Mama Cass there it was ego that killed the beast, but only after a fully playable version was produced, which he claims to have played. He says it ran much like Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS, I assume without the ball mechanic. Master Chief already has all the balls he needs, thank you very much.
Didn't you guys hear? 01/04 is the new 04/01. All you had to do was fly from America to Europe. :)
PA's Tycho Picks Zune Over iPod The Zune is going to be the (insert Gamecube/360 in Japan/PSP) of the mp3 player market: it's never going to get anywhere due to several factors, only one of which is even sort of under Microsoft's control. The first factor is iPod/iTunes compatibility.
Why the hell did my comment make it in there? -_- After writing it I pretty much wanted to go back and delete it simply because I don't want people to come to me as some sort of authority figure (although fanboyish) on Second Life, but rather the positive-while-being-as-neutral-as-possible opinion. Considering I always try to take a neutral stance when it comes to PS3 vs Wii vs 360, hopefully my "works for a PC company" doesn't reflect poorly on future comments.
I'm betting I'm in there cuz I sucked up. :P Maybe this'll be an indicator on how to get in the Multi-Tap more often? *grin*
Tragedy struck as a 7 year-old London boy vacationing with his parents on the island of Phuket died of electrocution, having attempted to unplug his GameBoy from the wall while still dripping wet from a dip in the pool. A truly sad story, and I cannot imagine what his parents must be going through, but the press in the UK are having a field day.
Everybody thank JasonR for our italics.
Thank you JasonR. :)
Now let's all thank the webmaster for not fixing this glitch a year ago.
Thank you webmaster. :)
Now everyone thank the media for blaming a system that isn't even sold anymore since the DS came out.
I've noticed lately, this trend to start calling out upcoming Will Wright brainchild Spore for being "behind schedule." I'm not quite sure what that's all about. Sure the game was showed back in 2005, and looked amazing, but just because it makes an appearance doesn't mean the game is months away from completion. I don't think the release date for Spore has been pushed back once. In fact, I don't think its ever had a release date.
When it was shown off in 2005 it was said to be in stores the summer of 2006. I'm fairly sure it was either Will or EA who said that too. So, yes, it has been delayed.
ABC's Jonathan Silverstein has an interesting piece up over on ABC News about the Playstation 3 buying boom. The story, it sounds like, was at least partially spurred by that photo I took at my local Best Buy showing 30 of the consoles sitting out on the sales floor on New Year's Day. It also touches on our report of the death of the Playstation 3 grey market. But most importantly it gets comments from Sony's own David Karraker on the issue.
How I viewed that last sentence:
"Everyone could win! ^_^"
Honestly, the winners are the consumers who get good games and the developers who live the good life by making the good games.
Oh yeah, and whichever company makes the most profit off their systems. ;-)
That's what Gamasutra writer Rick Sanchez thinks: To look at it another way, perhaps episodic gameplay affords PC developers a blue ocean opportunity. For two years we have been listening to Nintendo talk about broadening the games market. Their solution for this in the living room is a next gen platform with last gen features with a gimmicky controller that is less expensive than other next gen systems.
So am I the only person who considers calling the Wii controller a "gimmick" a one-way ticket to I-like-being-ignored-ville? If he wants to sound so dumb, he may as well tell us the Nintendo DS is a gimmick too. :(
So today I thought I would give some of the readers a treat and post the Wii panty girl video, giving both the perverts and the curmudgeons something to comment on during a quiet Wednesday afternoon. Soon after I posted it, the video went private, the panties now replaced with a video of her playing the Wii in spandex. Why? I tracked her down via YouTube and Yahoo and asked. Note that this is not her real Yahoo handle. Duh. Mike Fahey: Mike from Kotaku here, and curious!
This entire post is full of awesome. Good job handling the conversation exactly how I would have... with quick, witty remarks that make you look like a total ass. Very well done!
