Chavez Worse than Bin Laden?

Reported by Judy - Sat 1:43 PM

Fox News pushed the line on Saturday (December 9, 2006) that Hugo Chavez is an enemy of the United States and that consumers should be willing to pay $5 a gallon for gas in order to bring him down.

Bush 'Best President Ever'? Not Even on Fox

Reported by Judy - Sat 1:04 PM

How bad are things for George W. Bush? Things are so bad that he can't even win a Fox News "fair and balanced" debate on whether he's the best president ever for the economy.

Fox News Plays Defense in 'War on Wal-Mart'

Reported by Judy - Sat 11:49 AM

Somebody has declared "War on Wal-Mart," and Fox News rushed to the front lines to defend the world's largest retailer on Saturday (December 9, 2006), but it never made clear exactly who has been launching all the attacks. And it also was less than forthright about who some Wal-Mart's defenders are.

Stephen Colbert's "Truthiness" is "The Word" - of the year!

Reported by Chrish - Sat 1:16 AM

Unlike Bill O'Reilly, whom he satirizes four nights a week, Stephen Colbert actually DID coin a new word and it is being honored as "Word of the Year" by Merriam-Webster, the Springfield MA dictionary firm.

Chickenhawk Dennis Miller: What's Wrong In Iraq, Quite Frankly, Is That We're Not Brutal Enough To The Insurgents

Reported by Ellen - Sat 12:33 AM

Dennis Miller has never served in the military (and I’ll bet none of his close relatives are currently serving, either), has no government nor diplomatic experience but he proclaimed last night (12/8/06) on Hannity & Colmes that he nonetheless knows the solution for winning the Iraq war: Being more brutal to the insurgents.

John Gibson Distorts News Blurb Into Vietnam Style Anti War Action

Reported by Deborah - Fri 11:30 PM

John Gibson, flushed with patriotism, claimed a woman protesting the Iraq War spit in a soldier's face in Syracuse, New York. Gibson cited the The Syracuse Post Standard for the story which made no mention of the accused spitter having political motives. Looking a bit deeper, a conservative blog posted that the woman in question had been arrested previously for the kind of behavior that would indicate mental instability causing impulsive aggression like spitting.

Bill O'Reilly And Bernie Goldberg Join FOX Chorus Against David Gregory And NBC

Reported by Deborah - Fri 10:08 PM

Bill O'Reilly had no problem last night, 12/08/06, jumping all over NBC and David Gregory for the well publicized incident between Gregory and Tony Snow. Repeating the accusation from his opening talking points, BOR claimed that NBC had turned sharply left. Bernie Goldberg and Jane Hall were on hand for the regular Policing The Press segment and after praising Goldberg for his reputation as a tough reporter , asked for his opinion of the Snow/Gregory incident.

On Fox News, Only Whites Have Rights

Reported by Judy - Fri 6:40 PM

On Fox News, white people have unlimited rights and people of color have rights only to the extent they don't interfere with those of white people, which means, they don't really have any at all. That's fair, isn't it?

During "Two Minutes of Hate" Rant, Hume Neglects to Mention Fox Ties to NY Post

Reported by Janie - Fri 12:41 PM

Last night (12/7) during Brit Hume's "Two Minutes of Hate" (AKA "Grapevine" segment) on "Special Report", Hume discussed world reaction to the Iraq Study Group's findings. Hume mentioned the splashy front page of the New York Post which upset many by referring to ISG participants James Baker and Lee Hamilton as "surrender monkeys". Hume neglected to mention however; that the NY Post is owned by the same parent company as Fox News: News Corp.

Oliver North Misrepresents Iraq Study Group’s Findings In Order To Present A Happy, FOX News Fantasyland Iraq

Reported by Ellen - Fri 3:02 AM

Oliver North made his third report from Ramadi last night (12/7/06) on Hannity & Colmes. Like his prior reports, it contained happy news overtly aimed at countering the Baker-Hamilton report’s grim findings on the situation in Iraq. North, a convicted liar whose conviction was overturned on a technicality, focused on just one of the 79 recommendations in the ISG report (training the Iraqis) in just one area of Iraq (part of Ramadi) and tried to make it seem as though all the recommendations of the report have already been carried out. With video.

Heartland's John Kasich - "this is a civil war in Iraq"

Reported by Chrish - Thu 11:59 PM

Eight days ago Bill O'Reilly called GE-owned NBC "the most aggressive anti-Bush network these days, as they have made a calculated effort to woo left-wing viewers," because they had begun to concede that there is indeed a civil war in Iraq. Today 12/7/06 on The Big Story with John Gibson, John Kasich (Heartland, FNC) said "I have finally come to the conclusion that this is a civil war in Iraq." Hmm. Hmmmmm.

The Sky Is Falling! Barbarians Are at The Gate! Nuke the Bastards! And, Oh Yeah, Four Minutes of Stock Advice

Reported by Marie Therese - Thu 10:25 PM

At the end of November the Bush administration issued another one of its unfounded, speculative, uncorroborated warnings that certain unidentified (mythological?) "Al Qaeda" hackers, posting on an unnamed website somewhere in cyberspace, said that they wanted to hack into the computers at the New York Stock Exchange in order to bring down our economy.  As Melanie noted in an earlier post, this report rated a big ho-hum from other media outlets, which generally ran one story, containing the qualifier that the threat was "unconfirmed" and "posed no immediate danger" to the United States.

Reported by Janie - Thu 11:24 AM

Republican View Only Opinion Given In Reporting of New Congressional 5-Day Work Week

Reported by Janie - Thu 10:18 AM

During last night's (12/6) "Special Report", host Brit Hume spent a portion of his "Two Minutes of Hate" (AKA "Grapevine" segment) discussing incoming House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer's decision to lengthen the Congressional work week from 3 days to 5. After explaining the decision, the only opinions provided by Hume were Jack Kingston's (R - GA) and Elton Gallegly (R - CA), which of course, were both negative.

MacCallum Does Damage Control for Bush on Iraq

Reported by Judy - Thu 8:32 AM

In a report on the recommendations of the Iraq Study Group, Fox News on Wednesday (December 6, 2006) left the impression that the report supported George Bush's course in Iraq and concluded that the choices for the U.S. were between "getting out" and "winning." Updated with video.
