ESRB Rates Eight New VC Titles

by Shawn White (2006-11-07)

According to a listing on the ESRB's Web site, eight new first-party games for Virtual Console have been revealed and rated.

Duck Hunt, Hogan's Alley, Kid Icarus, Kirby's Adventure, Pilotwings, Pro Wrestling, Punch-Out and Wild Gunman are the eight newly approved titles. All received an ESRB rating of "E" for everyone. Whether or not the aforementioned classics will join the immediate launch line-up is unknown at this time. However, they will only be available to gamers in the Americas unless other territory rating organizations issue otherwise.

By the end of 2006, Nintendo and its third-party partners intend to release 30 Virtual Console titles in the Americas and Japan, with Europe and Australia set to receive 20. Beginning in January 2007, 10 new retro titles (across various platforms) are expected to be released each month.

Update: Nintendo of America recently revealed even more Virtual console titles to IGN, which are as follows:

  • Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Kirby's Super Star (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Mario Kart 64 (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)
  • Starfox 64 (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)
  • Super Metroid (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Kirby's Dream Land 3 (Super NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time (Nintendo 64; rated E for Everyone)
  • Excitebike (NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Ice Climber (NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Dr. Mario (NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Mario Brothers (NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Ice Hockey (NES; rated E for Everyone)
  • Soccer (NES; rated E for Everyone)
Readers should note that an approved ESRB rating does not mean the games will be released immediately. Rather, Nintendo may withold the titles until the time of the company's choosing.
