It appears someone who attended the press conference where Microsoft recently announced TV and movie downloads are coming to the 360 decided to do a little snooping around. And look what they came up with! One of the Xbox 360s at the conference reportedly had 70 GB of space free, which means it had at least an 80GB hard drive installed! More likely, it had a 100 GB drive (like the ones already announced for release in Korea) with 30 GB of data already on it, thus resulting in the "70 GB free" message you can see above.
So what does this mean? It means that larger Xbox 360 hard drives may be just around the corner, hopefully of the 100GB variety. With an HD TV episode taking up a couple of GBs of space, you'd still only be able to fit one or two season of your favourite TV show on the 100GB drive. Perhaps they should make the drives stackable, or offer highly compressed DivX versions of TV shows at around...say, 350 MB for a 40 minute show? If this is to become a true legal alternative, that is what needs to happen. People aren't going to be content with storing one or two seasons on their hard drive, unless of course they can back them up to an HD-DVD! Ah huh! We see where you're heading, Microsoft.
