Man slashed in unprovoked attack

The victim is recovering from slash wounds at St John's Hospital
A 24-year-old man has been slashed on the back and in the face by two men in an unprovoked attacked in West Lothian.

The incident happened on Wednesday at about 2245 BST as the victim was walking on the footpath in Broadfaulds Crescent, Whitburn.

He heard a voice and was slashed on the back before turning round and being slashed in the face.

Lothian and Borders Police said that the two men, one of whom was said to be wearing a dark jacket, then ran off.

The victim went to a friend's house nearby and an ambulance was called.

He is being treated at St John's Hospital for his injuries.

A police spokesman said: "We would appeal to anyone who may have seen or heard the incident last night to come forward.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone in the Whitburn area who might know anything about what happened to contact us."
