The governments taxes on luxury goods have aggravated many and will do little to solve a growing budget deficit crisis. One forecast predicts the new fees will raise LE 1.5 billion compared to the LE 52.3 billion deficit. So, while every purchased meal, hotel stay, airplane reservation, phone call, or new set of wheels will provide an opportunity to dwell on the rising costs of living, the taxes will bring dubious benefits.
