For a 6-foot 8-inch tall actor, Brad Garrett can be pretty stealthy.

The former "Everybody Loves Raymond" star and his wife of seven years, Jill Diven, have been split for several months without anyone, not even his parents, finding out, reports USA Today.

The couple decided to separate last Decemeber and made it official in court papers in April. The 46-year-old actor says that they've kept the amicable split quiet in the best interests of their children: Max, 7, and Hope, 6.

"Our No. 1 focus is our kids and parenting," says Garrett. "We will always be friends because we will never be single parents. We will always be two parents.

"You can't stay together for the kids, because kids know everything," he adds. "Sure, it's daunting to have Daddy move out, but when he's back two days later, and he gives Mom a hug, and everyone goes to lunch -– that's what it's about."

The two apparently maintain their own rooms in each other's houses: Garrett has a home in Malibu, while Diven kept the mansion they shared in Woodland Hills, Calif.

The actor still refers to his ex as "an extraordinary woman" and "the greatest mom in the world," while Diven insists that she has "nothing but positive things to say about Brad. We both realized we're best friends, and we're always going to be best friends. People grow apart. We could do the 'he said-she said' thing, but that's not us."

Garrett met Diven while she was a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas' Rio hotel-casino. They married in May 1998 in Beverly Hills.

Garrett, who won three Emmys playing older brother Robert on "Everybody Loves Raymond," stars in FOX's upcoming sitcom "'Til Death" opposite Joely Fisher and Eddie Kaye Thomas. The show will premiere on Thursday, Sept. 7.
