The history of the Kharkiv Morozov Machine
Building Design Bureau is one of the most vivid pages in the tank manufacturing of the former Soviet Union, when creative
competition of several design bureaux made it possible to preserve the leading positions in the world tank manufacturing.
Political events of
the last decade have dramatically changed the conditions under which
the enterprise has to work now. They not only added difficulties and
production risk, but also opened new horizons.
In the late 1990s the tank production
industry of Ukraine underwent a major strategic restructuring in
order to place the Ukraine's tank designers and manufacturers in a
leading position to compete successfully in the 21st century land
systems market place. In particular, the enterprises involved in the
development and production of armoured vehicles were united into a
concern called 'Armoured Vehicles of Ukraine'. The KMDB itself
changed dramatically as it transformed itself from being a tank
company into one with a wider range of equipment and expertise
covering various tracked and wheeled armoured vehicles.
Today the Kharkiv Morozov Design Bureau is
given the task of co-ordinating the work on organising the production of the entire nomenclature of military tracked
vehicles in Ukraine. The design and production experience accumulated over the past years make us confident in the
successful fulfilment of this task. |
