This was being developed as a new tank that would exceed
the T-34 tank as to its
characteristics. In so doing, the experience of using tanks during the
Second World War was taken into account.
Some prototype vehicles were manufactured in 1945. Having been
subjected to trials, the tank was accepted for service and was put
into production in 1947, being later on continually upgraded in
order to enhance its combat and technical characteristics.
