All about Laura

Favourite holiday destination?

Most memorable news story you've reported on?

Reporting on Masaai children learning to use the internet. We stayed in their village in the middle of the Kenyan plains for 2 days. It was amazing.

They looked after us so well and their way of life was inspirational. The children there play an important role in the community - herding cattle before breakfast, then walking maybe 5 or ten miles to get to school.

What makes a good NR story?

It has to be interesting to children and it has to be news. It's always nice if we can have some interviews with children in it and if there are good pictures to film, but even if there isn't, as long as it's interesting and new, it's a good one for us.

Advice to children who want to get into journalism?

Start locally. Write for your school paper or magazine. If your school doesn't have one, set one up - I did! Writing is a key skill to become a journalist. Do press pack reports for the NR website, and ask as many people as you can for their advice.

The key is to work hard in school, to get the grades you need and to get as much experience as you can in the world of journalism. That's what Ellie, Lizo and I did.

Best advice ever given?

Don't give up and always try your best. Also, be nice to people and generally they'll be nice back!

What makes you happy?

My family and my friends.

Favourite gadget?

I couldn't live without my phone - as I'm often away from home and it's the only way I can keep in touch and change plans at the last moment.

What's your biggest ambition?

To go sky diving, if I ever build up the courage!
