A note from the Editor
I’m honored to
be the first to welcome you to Clutch and
Chrome, a website devoted to news, information, facts and
figures about motorcycles for those who love to ride them. Let me
invite you on behalf of everyone here at
Clutch and Chrome to come in, look around and enjoy what
we’ve created for you.
And what information we
have for you;
recommended rides from fellow bikers, a
database of motorcycle clubs that spans the United States and
some place for you to go with your new riding buddies found in our
nationwide events calendar
(which started off with over 2500 events in the
database). If you’re not happy with your
ride, or terrible thought, you haven’t bought one yet there’s also a
searchable database of the latest
motorcycle specifications.
Among all these pages of data are also reference guides to
help with bikers-speak
and the differing helmet laws
that change from state to state.
The idea was to make this
website a never-ending resource for brand new bikers as
well as the seasoned biker who probably spends more time on two wheels than
on two feet.
But we realize that life
should be more fun that cold, hard data and reference stuff which
is why we not only keep you up to date with the latest motorcycle
related news, but also bring a growing number of
articles
covering a range of topics related to the riding world. The news
isn’t republished from some streaming news feed but reported with the
everyday rider’s point of view and relevance. Because we understand
you don’t always have as much time as you’d like our articles vary
in length from a quick light read to more detailed
undertakings.
Since there’s only so many of us here at
Clutch and Chrome who can only write so much, the website
features a list of great motorcycle related
blogs. They're written and
created by riders like you and me, and they have something to say!
Bikers who ride everything from cruisers to sportbikes, the library
of blogs is always
being added to.
The best part of having
all this information is actually knowing its there. When
building the Clutch and Chrome
website every design decision was made for simplicity of use, easy
navigation and how quickly the webpage would appear on the average
computer. Not everyone is hooked up to a high speed DSL/cable super fast
internet connection and flashy graphics quickly lose their appeal when
you have to wait ten minutes to see them.
More important than
listing all the wonderful things we are, is knowing the things we
don’t want to be. From the first moment the concept of
Clutch and
Chrome was discussed the list of what should be avoided was long and
clear. It included;
-
No technobabble.
Understanding that there are riders out there that want
step-by-step instructions on how to change a clutch in complete
darkness while a tornado whirls away outside the house, but most of
our articles are written in everyday language about everyday topics
that relate to riding. Some subjects you may be aware of and others you
might not. For those gearheads out there don’t worry, our
experts are already working on stuff written specifically for you.
-
Stale information.
We’ve all visited those websites that still have the same ‘new’
story sitting on the front page which was plainly written six
months ago. Our goal is to add new stuff all the time so you can
visit us throughout the day for that much needed break at work,
before you grab dinner or as you’re getting ready for bed.
-
Sneaky advertising.
Yes we have ads and we'd encourage you to click on the advertisers
who've kindly asked to appear on our website. But the links
in our stories will take you to relevant information on the
internet and not to an advertiser. If we're paid to write about
something or link to a service we're getting a referral fee from,
we'll let you know.
-
Pop-ups. Probably one of the
most annoying aspects of making your way around the internet!
Clutch and Chrome wont have any pop-up advertising to get in your
way of getting to the really good stuff!
So feel free to visit as
many times as you like and let us know if there's anything we missed
or need to add to Clutch and Chrome.
Enjoy!
